Having problems with an '01 2500. Have some friends that come south every winter and stay in our park. Their truck has 107K miles and has never had anything except routine service, not even a replacement lift pump. I installed a Superchip program in it for them this week. They drove around for several days and the truck ran great. They left with their 5th wheel on Thursday. Made it about 50 miles and the truck shut off completely. I went to them and checked the codes with the tuner and got 4. They were PO253, PO251, P1688, and PO252. I erased the codes and removed the program. Didn't think about checking the codes with the ignition switch until I had erased them and the odometer showed a 1693. My 98. 5's don't have this feature. The truck won't start so we have it towed back to my place. Did the usual things like draining the filter and checking for water, found none but there wasn't much fuel in the filter housing. Took the filter out, it was just installed before their trip south, looked fine. Lift pump will run but is not pumping anything. Haven't checked voltage yet but I would think that it should pump something if it ran. We're going to replace the pump tomorrow just bacause of the miles. This probably won't fix the truck but need to start somewhere. Looks like something shut down the whole fuel system. These folks are retired but they do have sick folks at home. If I sent them to a dealer or to Cummins, there is no telling how much of a bill they would hit them with. They would probably just replace everything. Any info on this would be very much appreciated, maybe someone has had this happen before. Thanks, Kenny

not possitive it will help but you may need to rehit the computer with the stock programming the computer may have shut down and when you took out the program you but in it lost stock program not positive but I have heard of guys having to reprogram computer with stock program hope this helps

I had those codes with a DDUFM box once. Wound up being the box. In your case the lift pump shaft to the inside rotor may have broken so that the motor is running but the vane is not turning. This requires LP replacement and hopefully that will clear up the timing issues.

I had my truck die on me why'll I was driving. I was getting fuel at the line going into injection pump but when I cracked the injector lines and cranked it over their was nothing. The injection pump crapped out. I just though I would add my two cents. Hope you get it running

If you have to buy a new VP44 call Industrial Injection real nice guys. They will answer any question you have, they answered all my stupid questions.

Well the truck is finally running again. We replaced the lift pump, the shaft was not broken but it wouldn't pump a drop of fuel. Still didn't have any fuel to the injectors. Even hooked to my tractor and pulled it around, I hate grindong on the starter. Had fuel to the VP-44 but not to the injectors. Since these people are about 1200 miles from home, we sent it to Cummins. They removed the ECM and checked it out, everything O. K. They called today and said it was ready, replaced the VP44. It ran great coming home so we hooked up the Superchip tuner and tried to reinstall the program. It told me that it was vin locked. We thought that we had taken the program out before we did anything else to the truck but I guess that didn't happen. In the process of trying to get it reprogramed we killed the truck, wouldn't start. We finally did as the tuner told us and removed 2 fuses and went back through all the steps and it cranked and ran fine. I still can't imagine what happened and why it said that it was vin locked after Cummins had checked it. Almost had cardiac arrest on that one and my friend did also. Going to hook the tuner to my wife's 98. 5 tomorrow and see if it still works properly. Don't think that we will touch the other truck ever. I could have bought a new pump and installed it but since they live so far away we decided to let Cummins just in case of a warranty problem. Thought we were going to have to find some smelling sauce when my friend's wife saw the bill. I won't post her remark here. It really was not that bad for the labor, probably cheaper than the dealer. Glad this ordeal is over and truck is fine. Guess what caused the whole problem was the lift pump. Theyu even told me at Cummins that the first thing that they would do was replace it and that was the usual cause for VP44 failure. Thanks for all the input, sure is nice to talk with people that have been through some of the same problems.
