What a nightmare; I try to do what I can on my truck but I need dealer help sometimes. Stories like this are just plain scary.

J. J. at the risk of asking a stupid question... ... . what does retorquing cross tubes have to do with less fuel return? If cross tubes were loose/leaking would the fuel not be leaking under the valve cover? Am I missing something, on the common rail setup?

Thanks

If the connector tubes are not properly torqued to the injector body, they leak and rail pressure is lost, the leaked fuel follows a path through the head to the fuel return line. Usually does not fill the crankcase, and no codes or symptoms until it starts hard, runs poor, or stops running period.

Any honest question is never at risk of being stupid in my book. I did not have knowledge of this until it was learned the hard way... It seems this happens quite often, the cause sometimes is just mileage and time, they loosen up. People buy and replace parts not needed, when they could perform this free (if your handy) procedure.
