Posted a while back that my Tach, Oil Press, and Temp guage are not working. Memeber Damon had the same problem and was never able to solve. He replaced Cluster, Cluster plug in docking station, PCM and ECM. I took it to the dealer and they wrote this on the invoice along with telling me it was unrepairable.

"Scan tested, found PCM fault DTC, also no bus messages from companion module p1694,. . 69 starts since DTC was set. Cummins ECU has 2 faults po 234,255 starts. No CCD messages received from pcm p1698 0-good trips, 255 starts. "

Would love some help cracking that diagnosis. Also I would say guages went out about the aformentioned 69 starts ago. Would love to have those guagesw wroking. BTW it is not the connector to the Cluster. I have replaced that already and Cluster tests out ok with holding trip meter pin.

Which truck 02 0r 98.

Code 234 for both turbocharger overboost condition, 255 is not on my list.

You can rule out grounds they are not the same, at least not in the 96 service manual.

Do a search on codes 1694 and 1698 I've seen these codes in other threads (maybe yours). (96 to 01 codes. )

Take it to a electrical shop and see what they say.

Did you check each individual guage/wiring/ electrical board behind the instruments?

2002 has the problem, I checked wires but I guess I would need to pull the whole dash to be sure. I thougth maybe the "no bus" may shed some light on it but I guess not.

the 3 gages get ther2 data from the data bus, the code may be the problem,
I will check the book again to see if there are any more gages on that bus.

what does the oil pressure and the temp gage read when engine is running.

I would expect a ' check eng light ' for 0 oil pressure, still looking at schmatics,
Dodge is REALLY hard to decipher...

My 99 FSM lists P1694 as No CCD Messages Received from ECM (Bus failure to PCM) and P1698 as No CCD Messages received from PCM (Bus communication failure to PCM. A "Companion DTC" was set in both the ECM and PCM. )

If the wiring is not the problem, I would hazard a guess that either the ECM or PCM are bad since the self test on the instrument panel came back ok. You might want to try unplugging the ECM and PCM to reseat the connectors. Its a long shot but it's all I've got.

Joe

Trie plugging/replugging but still nothing. Cluster test is fine and when ingition is turned on the oil pressure guage slowly moves up to 0 from the rest position the other guasges do not move at all. I want to replace whatever is neccessary but no dealers say they can't fix it.

What I have done in the past is take the connectors loose and spray them with contact cleaner, blow them out with compressed air, and once they are dry give them a good coat with diaelectric grease...

Seems to have cured my problems...

the ecm sends the data to the pcm than the pcm sends the data to the
instrument cluster,

Above post may be a good place to start, ecm to pcm may be the bad guy. .

You stated you had a 'No Bus' error message. That would be the communication bus the PCM, ECM and the instrument cluster communicate through. Look in the electrical section of the service manual under CCD bus and trace it out. It may be shorted, or possibly have something connected to it that should not be. It is a a very low voltage circuit. Something on the order of 1/4 volt +/-. I believe you will find your trouble here.

I think you are on to something. When I got the truck everything was working. The previous owner had a strobe package insatlled but it was ripped out and there are still some wires left behind. You know how when something goes wrong it is usually attributed to something different than what you were working on. Maybe that is the case. I will check tommorrow. Thanks for the help. I will also post on Carsondodge.
