I'm getting closer to purchasing a new 600. One of the suggestions I've read about in previous threads is to send out an e-mail to the local dealers telling them that I'm a serious buyer, the description of the truck I want and see how low they can go below dealer wholesale. This seems like a good idea, but I wanted to get some more feedback before I stick my foot in my mouth ... er keyboard.

First off, how do I get the e-mail addresses of all the local internet sales managers locally?

I was thinking of saying something like:

- I've decided to purchase the following Dodge truck:

3500 CTD QC, LWB, SRW, 4X4, 6-Speed, 3. 73, SLT, Fold flat seats, Anti-Spin.

- I'm a cash buyer with no trade-in.

- Please reply to this e-mail with specifics related to a truck you have in stock, and how much below dealer wholesale you will come.

What do you think? Will they all just laugh at me, or is there a better approach?

Thanks!

You can sent an email by building a truck on the dodge website. Once your done building the truck it will show the local dealers closer to you. You can choose from there who you want to send it to.

I did the same thing to try out the local dealers. I just walked in and explained my situation and asked what they had in stock. Since nothing matched my criteria, I said this is exactly what I want. I told them I'd place the order in three days and to fax their best offer to me at the following number.

They didn't like the tactic and they wanted to know what the other dealers had sent. Don't give that info to them. IMO

Dealers aren't stupid and they all know where the prices can fall. They just don't know how dumb or smart the customer will be. The dumb ones keep them in business.

Hey Joel-

I went through cars.com and had e-mails from 3 local dealers within 48 hours with some pretty decent offers.

100 Proof

I used carsdirect.com and sent it to the local dealer instead of going through them. I am assuming by Old Hangtown your talking about Placerville so the local dealer is Magnussen's in Auburn. The fleet/internet manager there, Steven Jackson was really good to deal with, he had no problem ordering what I wanted instead of trying to sell something off the lot and he matched the carsdirect price. I am not related to the dealership in any way, just a happy customer.
