Got my invoice today from DSM, they added several things I'm not sure I should have to pay for:

PREP hand rubbed silicone treatment 240. 00

PPAe Chrysler advertising 460. 00 (What?)!!

Destination charge 900. 00

Everybody gets the Chrysler Advertising. Here in pa its the exact $ value. they call it

T03 Philadelphia zone DAA

B03 Philadelphia zone PPA/EB -pf

I heard another guy that bought a truck in SL had the same fee's (only it did not say Phila)

You got to pay the destination charge as well. Its on all new cars.

did you get charged $25. 00 for customer one owner loyalty mailing? I think that's that mag you will get every couple months

well the dealer is marking those #'s way up destination should be under 700 the silicone prep is a dealer thing mot factory and advertising is way out of sight too... I would find a more honest dealer

Don't know where you are getting your information but when I took delivery on my 2005 the advertising cost where $435 and the delivery was $850. This comes right off the invoice from the factory on my March 2005 purchase and are not dealer add-ons...

Don't know about the silicone prep, but I would ask them. If you are ordering it, you should be able to reject this, but if it's off there lot, they may have already done the deed before you bought it... ;)

Hand rub this!

I'd tell the dealer to take the "hand rub finish" and well, get rid of it. Just another "Paint Protection" scam.

Everyone pays the destination charge.

The $400 advertising fee? No way.

I told my dealer to stick one of their little emblems on the back and I would advertise their business for only... $400... ... Another dealer scam.

If it appears on the factory invoice it is not a dealer advertising fee. It is put on by Chrysler and is not negotiable. Sometimes the local dealer will add his advertising fee onto the invoice, but this is not a factory charge. While you probably can negotiate a "dealer advertising fee" you won't negotiate the factory one. If they told you that they would take the factory invoice ad fees off, they probably stuck you with it somewhere else in the deal... ;)

Just bought a truck from Dishman in Spokane, the destination charge was $900. 00. So that is correct, as Spokane and Kellog should have the same dest. charge. I can't find any thing stating advertising though. I suggest calling them and getting it straightend out.

Just bought from DSM make them take off the hand rub silicon they do it for free now no charge well that is at least what I was told and indeed it was removed from by bill. The other numbers are not going to change.

The advertising fee, assuming it's the factory one, is legitimate. I think it is regional and the amount may vary. I first ran into this on an '02 Volvo we bought. I thought the dealer was trying to scam me, so after much persistence at Volvo headquarters I finally got through to a lady who explained it. I disagree with the concept, as I think they should average it out and build it into the price of the vehicle, but it is legit.

As for the hand-rubbed treatment, I would flatly refuse to pay it. Tell them to bill it to Rosy Palm :-laf

My sales rep. was up front about this silicone thing even before I ordered my truck and she said all trucks get it. I told her I did not want it and she no problem.

I think it comes down to what kind of sales rep. you are dealing with as for mine she was totally honest and straight forward, no B. S.

also the delivery charge is non negotibale. Even if you get a truck built in St Louis, and you live in St louis the delivery charge is $900. 00. they divide the total cost to ship all trucks across all trucks sold.

It is put on by Chrysler and is not negotiable.

Ain't nothing non negotiable. Do you think a dealer is going to lose a sale on a $40k + truck over $400?

I guess it depends on how hard you want to bargain. I think the manufacturer and dealer throw these things in figuring that the average customer won't raise the issue. It's free $$ for them.

I bargained hard and fair and got a great deal The key is to be educated and don't let them slip this crap by you. Thats where the TDR excells: education.

They should eat the silicone paint stuff and the ad fee. No ifs ands or buts.

The mag, isn't worth 25 cents, let a lone $25 bucks! I asked the dealer to take it and the advertising off and he did. It is getting to be like the utility company, you pay to be a customer, use the pipeline, etc. !

So what are these charges that show up on the printout a dealer did when he was doing a truck search for me:

Equipment Description FWP

YGM 10 Additional Gallons of diesel fuel 19

T50 Portland - DAA 275

B50 Protland - PPA/EB-PF 210

Of course, it also had the destination of 900 and customer satisfaction of 25.

Once again, another bargaining chip. Hey, I just spent $40K+ on a truck and you want to bone me for a full tank?

I told my dealer, a full tank or no sale. Guess what? Got a full tank.

I'm sure it was written off somehow. Not my problem.

Dealers wait for people who don't want to make a scene or cause a problem. THey are their best customers.

Value-Added Charges

When i bought my '03 in Dec. '02, Earnhart Dodge, in the Phoenix area had a $3999. 00 "Value Added" charge on the window sticker. I bought mine at Tempe Dodge & they had a $2999. 00 "Value Added" charge on their stickers. 100% Extra Profit!!!

I purchased mine through the Fleet Dept. & told the salesman that I wouldn't even consider paying a penny of the $2999. 00, otherwise we can end this discussion Right Now. He shook his head & smiled & said not to worry about it.

After the deal was done, I asked him why they even put that additional charge on the window stickers. All it did was make me mad & more defensive when negotiating the deal. He said that I'd be surprised at how many people are so intimidated by the car buying experience that they will pay what ever price is put before them.

Like someone said, here. Educating yourself before buying can really pay-off.
