After I took my truck in for something, they flashed the computer and I lost About 2 MPG hand calculated. I’ve heard that you can go to Cummins (for a fee) and they can put back the old software and gain your MPG back. Anybody know if this is true?

From what I know, Dodge bought the engine and used their software, not Cummins software.

The Cummins software and ECM are different than what Dodge used, based on what I was told by a local Cummins shop that does some of my work... they can't do anything with the Dodge software (can't read it or write to it).

But that's only what I've read on here and been told locally.

I'm just so mad because I just got back from May Madness (we had a great time BTW for those that did not make it) and verified the mileage both ways and it was right at 2 MPG loss. #@$%!

I would run a few more tanks... could have been the drive itself.

FWIW, I lose mpg driving 300 miles to my parents, and gain it back driving back home... I live around 200 feet MSL, they live about 1800 feet MSL and across the mountains... it makes a difference.

My only advice would be download the latest Smarty software and see if that helps???

Can the dealer undo what they did? Did you ask them to flash the ecm when you took the truck in? I read somewhere on here that guys have been getting their ecm flashed even when they didn't want it.

I updated my Smarty Sr. to the 418b program. I understand that the new program includes Dodges reflashe's. Is that correct? Incidentally, the smoke's way down and power and fuel economy seem unchanged.

There is no turning back because all they have is the latest and greatest

Once the dealer flashes the ECM it can't be reflashed to stock, what you got is what you get, we would let the owner know the effects before we would flash and computer. Good luck with it.

They never told me they were going to flash it but apparently it is done when they hook it up to the star scan tool. I took it in for an erratic rail pressure which they could not find what was wrong. I ended up fixing it myself by replacing the rail pressure sensor. They can't go back once flashed with the "latest and greatest". #@$%! This was the first time the truck went to the dealer for repair since I bout it new 4 years ago so there have been numerous software flashes.
