the local dodge dealer fubar'd the recall 970. i have a lot of engine surging (rpm's) above 50mph and it is most assuredly my tps which rarely needs replacing only adjustment. so when i asked the mechanic if he adjusted the tps he said there was no adjustment necessary. sure enough, i drove it home and it was still driving like crap. so, i will print the procedure and take it to the dealer on monday and show them steps 50-56. good luck on the recall 970 everyone!! scott.

Precisely why I bought the kit and installed it myself. I tried to get two local dealerships to give me the parts and mark my VIN as fixed, but they wouldn't. They said they did that in the past and 'got their hands slapped for it'.

Sorry to hear about your trouble, but I feel better now for not having wasted my money.

Scott;

Don't feel like they were picking on you. I sent my wife with the truck to my "friendly 5***** dealer" to have the recall done. They mumbled about the prime-lock, but at least did not charge for extra time as I have seen that some others have done.

The idle was already a little low, but when it left the shop, it was so low that with the a/c on, the power steering pump killed it twice on turns at stoplights. It is a wonder my wife did not get in a wreck and get injured, or killed. Now I wonder if they did any of the adjustments that are required when you replace the throttle cable??

IMHO the vehicle left the shop in a more unsafe condition then when it went in (I had already replaced the cable).

P. S. The Pac-Brake did not work either but I guess that would be too much to expect since it is not a "stock" item

I had to readjust my linkage when I returned home. They had the idle hanging on the cable instead of resting on the low idle stop screw. It was idling at 1000 rpm!

A few weeks later I had to go back for the hood latch recall, and my smart a!! son asked if I had the ratchet straps with me just in case!!!!

I dunno where you guys find these dealers. The guys here in Eureka have always done every recall within the time estimate and the work was top notch. Same sort of thing for my wife's LHS. They did the insurance repair for the damage I got from hitting a deer with my truck. It looked like new when they got done. They just let some guy go because the vehicles were not as clean as they expected when he worked on them. Not all the dealers should be arrested for owning tools.

Now compare that to the last dealer I went to, who would not give appointments (first come, first serve) and NO guarantee they would even fix it that day, and the one before that that let the truck go with diesel fuel pouring out underneath when running.

Joe, I've been in your area many times, you are fortunate to live in an area where people still care about the quality of their work and life. You get in many areas, especially the large cities, and folks don't seem to give a crap about anything but themselves, they almost have to in order to survive. Even though my local dealer has only two bays and it's hard to get an appointment in this small CTD infested town, they do good work, they care.

Joe G. , I'm moving to Eureka tomorrow!

Read my tale of woe, in the thread, who makes the best Dodge trucks. The 3 dealers here in San Diego that I have had the misfortune to deal with have all been bloody awful.

Last incident, had the hard starting problem after truck sat for several days, am disabled so not uncommon. Saw TSB on Fritz's site and printed it out and took it to HINE Dodge. 7 days later with no offer of rental car or loaner, not that I needed one, got truck back. Charged me $71 USD for fixing main battery connections, said they were loose. Within 6 days the problem happened again.

I took it back again with a second copy of relavent TSB. This time they kept the truck for 10 days! Called me and said that it was a bad hose, no ****e Dick Tracy! When I picked it up they wanted to charge me $70 USD for changing that hose. I really blew my top right in the middle of the cashier/waiting area. Upshot, no charge.

Now extended warranty is up on purchase anniv. Nov. 4th and its good bye to Dodge dealers.

Other problems are mentioned in other thread so no sense repeating them here. Will be fixed by independents, all lined up, all with recommendations from satisfied customers.

!@##$ dealers!

JOE... ... it's easy how we get to such crappy dealers. most do not have the time or expertise to do the job right. why do you think that the mechanic on my truck did not do the recall 970 correct?? i can tell you... CAUSE HE DIDN'T HAVE THE F!!@#ING SERVICE PROCEDURE NOR HAS HE EVER SEEN IT!! the only reason i bought the dodge is because i like the cummins. every dodge i have ever seen is a piece of crap... falling apart in 60,000 mi. my wife owns a honda minivan and ZERO PROBLEMS. my brother owns 135 car dealerships (2nd largest in the U. S. ) and the honda is an excellent piece of work. no worries. selling above the sticker!!

shendren,

My '95 has 173K miles on it. It's still solid, no rattles. The interior is still in good shape even with my 200 lb butt bouncing in the seat for all those miles with no seat covers. In spite of cramming everything you can imagine in my center console I havn't even broken the hinges. It still steers just fine. NOT a piece of CRAP at all. I know some loggers and they like them. Nobody is as hard on a pickup truck as a logger. One logger used to have Fords but he kept knocking the front ends out from under them so he gave that up and switched to Dodge. It's a little dented up and filthy now, but it's doing its job just fine. NOT a piece of crap! If I ever wear mine out I will buy another one. Probably will wear me out instead. Switch dealers even if you have to travel some. No sense putting up with that.

good job on mine

i just took my truck in for 3 different recalls. they were done within a very reasonable time. the main mechanic took me back into the work area, showed me the work he was doing and going to do, and even gave me a few tips on things i could do in case of future problems with my truck. to make things even better the mech spent about 15 mins telling me why my 95 cummins was one of the best versions of our engine that was made. truck ran great, everything fixed ... guess i'm one of the lucky ones. :D
