Dropped my truck off this am to get injector test done after it started knocking. Asked about enabling high idle feature and was told there was no such animal. I tried to tell him differently and he said if it existed, he'd know about it. What a load of bull. Then he wanted to charge me $30 to recalibrate my speedo after my rim/tire installation. I had always liked this dealership up until now. My satisfaction apparently stops w/my salesman and does NOT extend into the service dept. We'll see what he says about the knock. At least the front end alignment was reasonable quoted. Is there a printout or documentation I could present to show him the info on the high idle enable???

High idle feature is for the auto's only. Won't work on your 6 speed.

$30. 00 is pretty cheap IMO when you consider they have to use a $5,000. 00 tool + pay the tech that knows how to use it for his time.

When you refer to the high Idle feature are you talking about the motor coming up to 1000 RPM when it's cold?? If so, My 6-speed does have it.

If not what are you referring to? I am new to the 3rd gen forum and not trying to pick a fight, just get educated. ;)

With the auto trans you can regulate idle speed with the cruise control. Cannot be done with the 6 speed. If you have adj pedals a piece of dowel works good. There are aftermarket high idle (adjustable) kits available but they are pricey

My 6-speed comes up to 1,000 rpm when it's cold too. I notice this when I start it on cold mornings and let it warm up. Starts at 750, goes up to 1,000 rpm for a bit and then drops back down to 750. Stays at 750 after it warms up. I know I'm not controlling this with any buttons, but it does it on its own.

I had a GM Duramax lemon #@$%! that GM bought back because it was possessed by electronic demons (transfer case deciding to shift into 4-low on its own rolling down the freeway) and they never could fix it. Hope this Dodge isn't that way too. Seems fine though. I just assumed it was programmed to do that  .

I guess I was a little confused when reading the threads on being able to control it w/the cruise control buttons. Mine does this automatically as well in colder temps but I thought they could enable a feature where I could do it with the buttons when it wasn't cold enough outside to make the computer do it. I can be a moron at times. :-laf

It is two different things. One allows you to control the idle engine RPM's through the cruise control buttons. The other is an automatic cold weather high idle that pulls the RPM's up to 1,000 instead of 750 while idling in really cold weather. I want the user controlled option so I can bump the RPM's up a little higher, but my dealer couldn't figure it out. So, they told me that the option doesn't exist on the 4. 5's.

With the parking brake on, my 6 speed has the high idle activated. I didn't ask for it, just started after having the TSB 18-037-004 done on my truck. So yes, there is proof the high idle works for both models, auto/6speed.

Good luck with the knock, hopefully it's a bad injector. Dealer is just covering expenses when asked about services above and beyond the normal, larger tires are not your normal attire, unless your speedo is whack-o. $30. 00 doesn't sound too bad for a speedometer calibration. If they foul up, you can continue to harass them until they get it right, it's something you paid for.

Good luck,

PS: I don't know if the '04's have the high idle option? Anyone else know. Read your signature after posting.

matt400 it takes about 2 minutes, 30. 00 no way dont care how much the drb costs.

Yep, and the flat rate tech probably gets paid . 2 to do it which eats up most of that 30 with very little to put towards the tool.

Nope. . not the same thing. What he is talking about is the "manual" high idle that lets you adjust the RPM's with the cruise buttons while in park.

What you are talking about is the cold temperature idle up feature and that is on both auto's and sticks.

what he said.

Same here :)

I had my manual high idle enabled by my dealer yesterday. There should be no difference in the auto or six speed for this function but I can't swear to it. I was with the mechanic (who had never heard of this) and it took about two minutes to do. Have the dealer put the scan tool on. As the options are scrolled through, one comes up that says "High Idle Enable". The mechanic then checks to see if it is enabled or disabled. He can then enable the high idle. It works great.

My auto high idle will not come on if it's above a certain temp. The manual high idle, once enabled, allows me to set the idle immediately after cranking. It is pretty neat.

Two seperate issues

Thanks for answering my ignorant question. It seems I created some confusion by asking here.

By coincidence, I took my dad to pick up his truck at the dealer today, and he repeated what some of you have said here. The auto's can be set up to allow the cruise to bring the idle up to approx 1500 RPM. The 6-speeds can not. Both can and do have the high idle feature that will automatically bring the idle to 1000 RPM on cold days.
