What tests should I ask the dealer to perform to diagnosis a varying miss at idle and @ 1500 no load you can feel through the truck? Dealer says no miss, no codes. My engine warranty expires on the 16th so time is running out. Any suggestions?

Note, I did install a new FCA. No fuel in oil, no white smoke and sometimes throws a huge black cloud when you get on it.

Since they can't "find" the miss I will have to pay for nothing and still have the miss.

Thanks,

Earl

I would hope you wouldn't HAVE to tell the mechanic what tests to run... maybe try a different dealer. Will it miss on demand, so you can duplicate it for them?

Earl,

I don't know.

But I do have an opinion on what to do for an approach. Describe in factual details what your concern is about your truck. Let them advise you what is recommended or correct for the concern.

I think if you tell them what you want done, you run the risk of spending un-necessary money, or not getting the test that are correct because you took on the role of diagnostician.

Good luck.

I wrote down what it was doing and how to duplicate the miss. Comes back, no miss found and no codes. That will be 85 bucks.

Tried that, didn't work, that's why I need to take control of the matter as they already said no miss, no codes its fine give us 85 bucks.

They're treating me like I don't know any better. He said maybe the ecm flash update they did solved it. I said how would a change in the program fix an engine miss? He didn't answer me.

I'm going to give them one more chance before I get pushy. When I pick it up im going to verify it still has the miss than get the tech and service writer to witness said miss and see if they offer more tests. If not, it will be on.

Earl

A cylinder contribution test can sometimes detect problems but if your dealership techs are untrained or lazy they may not know how to run the test or interpret the results.

If your dealer is clueless, it is worth $85 to get out of there before they break something.

So true! But no other dealers around but them (they own a couple) and another dealer that I wont go back to, due to worthless techs.

Maybe someone else will chime in with a dealer worth talking to. Surely, as you head toward Pittsburgh, Hagerstown, or Baltimore, there has to be a dealer with a good tech. I'd find one and travel if I were in your shoes.

Sag2 once advised that the way to identify skill level is to inquire about Cummins tech training and certification level attained. A Level 4 tech is the highest level of Dodge training and certification. It requires some ambition and interest in learning and proficiency to achieve.

I suspect many dealership techs have little or none but it has been reported recently that Dodge is requiring some level of training and certification for a dealership to be reimbursed for warranty repairs.
