Dealer just got 2007 trucks my impression....

Well just before I typed this memo, a car carrier just delivered our first 2007 model year trucks. I was under the impression the first trucks would be 1500 Rams, yet to my dismay they are 2500 Mega Cab Diesels. The 5. 9L is still there, but visually the truck has new badges (uglier) on the doors where the old "2500" once read. It now says in a block chrome Red & Black badge together "2500 Heavy Duty" sort of like how the Ford says Powerstroke & Turbo Diesel together. Now for the shocker, I promise pictures tomorrow... . But the new 2007 CTD has the same taillamps as the 2006 Dakota Yuck!!! I promise I will post pictures tomorrow. As far as I can tell and I will go inspect further, everything else looks to be carry over.

Went back out to take another look, looks like "Heavy Duty" is no longer on the tailgate. This probably has something to do with it being on the door? I can't get over how silly the new taillamps look, infact they looks identical to the Dakota & Durango lamps and very similar to the latest Silverado tails, but perhaps it will grow on me just as the 2006 re-freshened front end did eventually. Everything inside the cab looks familiar, the only difference I can see is the SLT that we have does not have the faux wood around the radio controls and doors, in it's place is a solid silver trim. Also looks like the headlamps are different, I couldn't figure out what struck me as different about them, upon closer inspection between a 2006 truck and it rvealed one of my favorite features or design cues about the '06 headlamps have been removed, the amber horizontal park lamps section??? Under the hood the 5. 9 looks identical to the '06. The window sticker had a notable higher price than a similar eqipped '06 and there were a few new items to me like "Heavy Duty Front & Rear spings?" How is this different to the springs in an '06 Agin I will shoot pictures tomorrow, stay tuned.

Thanks for the heads up. Too bad about the badges, I thought the 03+ were so cheap looking I had to take them off. Would have been nice if the 07 badges were good, I coulda maybe added one to the tail gate or something to be different.

cool cool... im sure they are just using the last of the 5. 9's slated for trucks up. my bet is there will be something of an early 07 model, kinda like an 07 and 07. 5, that will be excused from meeting the 07 ULSDL req's



now, about the tail lights... remember in mid 05 when everyone was saying yuck to the headlights... i do know they have grown on me a LOT... maybe the same will happen.

I was told by Hill-Kelly Dodge in Pensacola that '07 Ram chassis cab diesels would be arriving in September. I can only assume that these will be 6. 7's but I would think they would be.

Just as I promised here are a few shots I took today.





Visually the front is identical aside from noticing the headlamps have more chrome in the housing. *The Amber lower park lamp has been re-located to the the former spot ala MY 2003-2005 is this D/C trying to save a nickle? I actually loved the way the trucks look coming up at night with just that park lamp luminated, this is sad news.

The new badge, It does not look symetrical on the truck and somehow looks out of place. I prefer the big 2 5 0 0 or 3 5 0 0 on the door, gives the truck a beefier look and seperates it uniqueness from that of GM & Ford.

*Note the script "H E A V Y D U T Y" is no longer on the tailgate? Again D/C either trying to save a buck, or because having it on the door also would be too much. I liked the HD on the tailgate, but that's just me.

The Dash is identical to MY 2006 aside from woodgrain removed from the SLT trim as far as I know in place of the silver trim.

Boy... sure am glad I picked up an '06. Those tail lamps are real ugly. Genos will probably come out with a replacement for those in about a month.

I thought the emblems on my '06 were cheesy so I took them off. The '07 emblems are worse yet. Look cheap.

I like the headlights... the taillights look a little ricey to me and the door badges would be off before I ever left the lot.

I think I'll rob all the emblems off my truck before I sell or trade it in!!! I only want the '07 for the electric blue and my updating to a long box. My ATV fits better in my '92 Dakota (6. 5') than it does in my CTD. Kinda sad. A 7' box would be just right, but that's not gonna happen. Cant have everything i guess. Headlights look good IMO.

Anyone else here glad that they have an 03 or 04 :-laf ? All that new EPA garbage kinda scares me.
