Dealer just got 2007 trucks my impression....

Well just before I typed this memo, a car carrier just delivered our first 2007 model year trucks. I was under the impression the first trucks would be 1500 Rams, yet to my dismay they are 2500 Mega Cab Diesels. The 5. 9L is still there, but visually the truck has new badges (uglier) on the doors where the old "2500" once read. It now says in a block chrome Red & Black badge together "2500 Heavy Duty" sort of like how the Ford says Powerstroke & Turbo Diesel together. Now for the shocker, I promise pictures tomorrow... . But the new 2007 CTD has the same taillamps as the 2006 Dakota Yuck!!! I promise I will post pictures tomorrow. As far as I can tell and I will go inspect further, everything else looks to be carry over.

Taillamps! HA! I'm SO glad I bought in '06!!! I KNEW Dodge would ugly up the '07 trucks!!!



My '06 headlamps look better. Sorry, guys... I have to disagree with ya there.



Dodge is getting pretty "gay" with its styling.

taillights look like a chevy. I like the headlights better than the 06. Hate the badges. Its got the ford look to it now(badges i mean).

I was going to say... the badges harken back to the badges I had on my '91 Ford F350.

I have to say, I do like the solid silver trim around the radio. I have an 06 SLT and I don't really think the fake wood fits with the rest of the truck.



Also I agree with the person that posted about how easy it is to stain the cloth seats. . I have only had my 06 about a month and it needs to have the fabric cleaned... Maybe i will try some scotchguard...

All my vehicles immediately upon delivery receive seat covers. My '99's haven't seen the light of day in seven years. There's a number of manufacturers that produce fine covers in nearly identical fabric. That way you can beat the seats to death,remove them upon resale and they look like new. I'd love to have a new truck but can't afford one. If I win the lottery maybe I'll be able to get the last of the present emission units.

I guess I have to say I'm happy with my '05 styling. I actually always liked the tailights/bed sheetmetal on the third gens since they came out, even when I was still trying to get used to the front ends. I really appreciate the round, sculpted look on my '05 that carries through the whole truck. The '06s front ends started to clash with the rest of the truck, but not terribly. Those tailights on that '07 just ruin it for me. The badges visually stick out like a sore thumb. Good thing it's still got a Cummin's personality, because it ain't going home with anyone based on good looks.

upper red light: parking (dim)/turn/hazard (bright)

lower red light: parking (dim)/brake (bright)



I don't understand why they would ditch separate turn/hazard lights other than being cheap. Too many automakers think taillights have to "look cool", completely forgetting what they're really for. Even Volvo's taillights are starting to look ridiculous, especially on their wagons.

What about in the '50's when cars and trucks were "cool". I'm so glad we aren't in the "efficient" '80's were everything looked like it came from the same cookie cutter, and baked in different ovens.

The only reason I pointed out the 03-06 light pattern correction was, if the one light was just a parking light, then a swap would be very easy, as the extra parking light could be easily clipped or spliced somewhere else (e. g. , license plate light circuit). But because the turn/hazard lights are in that circuit, along with a dual-filament bulb, then a swap is not easy at all.



As far as the taillights of the 50's... you also were dealing with cars the size of small tanks... if you rear-ended them, there were slabs of steel for protection. On the other hand, how long would 50s cars and trucks have lasted if there were places like Jiffy Lube back then (considering the cost would have probably been about $1. 50)?



I don't mind progress, but I don't like unnecessary regression.

So, is this what Dodge is doing, too? How does this jibe with the new fuel formulation that should appear soon? Apparently, they don't think this is an issue, and that should be good news for previous gen3 models, or is it?

The 2007 Fords have been in production since spring, basically identical to 2006s. The new truck with the revised front end and 6. 4L twin-turbo will come out in January as a 2008 model.

LOL, and also, pretty much every year during the 50's-60's, you could count on some MAJOR change from ALL mfg's, if it wasn't styling, it was mechanical, and so on.

I remember as a kid I could tell the year of any MFG truck by some distinguishing feature that was only a spacific year. In the late 60's thru early 80's it was usually just a grill insert change. But there was a difference more than just a badging change.
