First, that wasnt a dig about a huricane and the... AHHHHH whatever man. What was implied was supply and demand. (ECO 101) With the disaster that was down there Im sure people needed A LOT of parts to get them back on the road; and Im guessing there wernt as many parts stores. Thus you were busy at the counter. Deep breaths man!
Second, IF the dealer was HONEST than why when I pull my 2000 truck up to a 1999 truck IDENTICAL in everyway other than I wanted a manuel shift they offered me $12K and wouldnt budge off $26 for theirs? Cause they were giving me "wholesale price" for mine huh? ok so now I know the WHOLESALE has to be CLOSE to mine or even less for theirs and the mark up is $14K?
Fact is thats wrong. ANYWAY you look at it!
ok, deep breaths taken

. really guys, there have been several post on here about my attitude. i do not have a bad attitude towards my customers, i take the time (ask questions, look at you vehicle, make phone calls, etc) to ensure you leave with the right part the first time. as i said before, my attitude is reflective of yours. some of you that keep getting smart#ss counter guys may want to look in the mirror. i get to talk with people with similar interest, learn things about my trucks, and help people with thiers. it is a GREAT job( the pay ain't bad either). the reason i exploded on the thread starter was mainly his title---Dealer ******* Rip-off---- i'm not real smart, but i know what word fits all those * (starts with f, ends with g). not what i want to see on my diesel site. i understand venting, but insulting my livelyhood deserved a swift and strong response. if feelings were hurt than so be it.
holy, i've never sold cars but i've seen those types of one sided negotiations before, car salesmen are a different breed. i've have worked with several who make a challenge to see who can rip people the most. there are some very good, fair auto salesman out there but the bad ones ruin the reputation. just know that they pay way more for a part than you do :-laf
ja, yes i know the dealer you speak of. you can usually get to know a parts guy and we'll help you within reason. problem is (as you found out) that it is a one on one deal. when i leave the next guy has no obligation to you. just the nature of the business.
bill, yeah gmafb was killin me :-laf . i understand corporate greed as much as the next guy. and it burns my hind end. i just didnt catch the relation at the time. as said before, deep breaths taken
buffalo, i'm not familiar with costco (apparently dont have them here). i do know that they are making a set profit margin some way or another. to survive at a lower margin, they can reduce overhead, improve purchasing, develope aggresive marketing, etc. my point was when you walk in a retailer and purchase a cd for 13. 99 or more it only cost them 3. 00 to make. large pizza with everything, 12. 99, cost less than 4. 00 to make. truck at 40k, cost the manufacture about 23k to produce. lots of large markups involved with most of the things you buy, but because with something like a wheel were you have shopping options for cheaper products, makes a standard markup seem ridiculous. really, it's just economics 101
