I work for the School District in town and asked if I got any kind of discount and he says "Actually that is with a pretty good discount... . cuz I can't see charging you what they want"... ... . holy crap, what was list price?

It's the little things that get ya.



I would have laughed at them and went home to fab something up out of and old shoe sole - like a boot heel, and a shelf bracket. The bolts and washers are a dime a dozen.



Another area where the Stea... name seems to fit well.

let not go blaming the dealer for this... . they can't sell parts cheaper than they buy them, yea they generally are expensive, but they are *usually* a good quality. they have to pay an arm and a leg for the part too. one thing to note, if you **** them off about overcharging, don't try to ask for a discout, they are not obligated to do anything but sometimes they help out the nicer customer. but on the other side of the coin, there are some dealers that markup thier parts 40-50%

The dealer I work for marks there parts up at least 50% but almost always 100% markup. I have seen as high as 300% markup on MB parts

I'm not so lucky... . we don't have a Cummins dealer close enough here.

Most equipment and OTR truck places that have Cummins motors will have these type O parts and have much better prices than the rip price of the dealers. . so don't limit your hunt to Cummins only.

Right on Gary. Many times a truck shop will have a better price than Cummins. The dealer is the last resort to buy any parts for the engine.

Even Cummins will give you a discount sometimes, do the dealers parts must be more that 100% markup.

Went to a Dodge Dealer for 3/4 ton rear wheel studs. $12. 50 each. Get real people. Went to NAPA and paid around $1. 60 each. The only reason for that type of price difference has to be plain and simple greed.

I think it's absolutely amazing too--but it really shouldn't surpise us. The "Big 3" (Ford, GM, Chrysler) really don't make much money on their vehicles, so they gouge on parts.



Another way to look at it is that price savings on new vehicles is much more visible to the public than on parts, so guess which one gets priced outrageously.

On the Navigator bit. My friend works for a Marketing agency and joked in a meeting "Why don't we say Buy a Navigator and get a focus free. " It became there new sale pitch, which broke all of the past sales records for the dealership.

Intercooler boot cost at dealer

Had a intercooler boot blow off the other day after truck came back from the shop. So since the repair place was messing with that area, I called and said that I wanted a new boot, which they said OK and ordered.



When I went to pick it up my friend at the shop said guess how much this costs with my discount. I said -- Oh, about $20; he said your not even close.



He showed me the invoice, List price was $144. 00 and some change (as if they want you to believe their getting it down to the last penny for you); His cost was $101. 00 and change.



I said keep it ---I'll adjust the boots up and down and get it to work. This rubber boot is "L" shaped about 8" long. THATS IT! Looks like a large bent bicycle tube. What a joke.
