I agree with you and that's correct about crating them. Tail lite warranty is possible, but at 35999. 9 miles I would think they would consider it a wearing part and not warranty it, unless like me having bought 5 vehicles from the same salesman. I would expect the salesman to caugh up the bill, without asking. Of course I would never ask for it, and I would do it myself before I would bother anyone. :-laf

Subaru will replace your windshield wipers (and as far as I know, brakes, clutch, and light bulbs) right up to the expiration of your 3/36. If you buy Subaru wipers (for your Subaru) at a dealership, they'll warranty them for 12 months or iirc unlimited miles but it might only be 12k.

Either way, they stand behind their product.

In the last year I've seen Subaru step up and pay for complete engines, partial transmissions, and head gasket repairs amongst other things - all of it clearly outside the owner's warranty.

I'm not suggesting that Dodge would step up, but I know from personal experience that at least one manufacturer would. It's not impossible that Dodge would warranty the trans.

Dodge did not want to warranty this transmission even thow they have tryed to repair it from day one. After the warranty was up on the truck they wanted him to pay a deductible to replace the case and thats not the dealer thats dodge them self. You pay forty five thousand for a truck you fight to get it fixed right under warranty they had thirty six thousand miles to do that and can't and now they want to charge you again. So lets say they change the case and it gernades in two weeks then is he going to pay another deductible for a new transmission? My point is when you pay top dollar for a truck they should take care of it and not with a tech that took a two hour transmission class on line

I'd be on the phone with Dodge customer service - I'd have been on the phone after the 2nd time it was in for the same problem.

I wouldn't, however, entertain the idea of paying a deductible for the repair. Not a chance, since it's a well documented issue that has been going on for tens of thousands of miles.

If the case does get replaced, the work should be covered by a 12/12k parts/service warranty anyway.

That's ridiculous.

The truck is almost ten thousand miles out of warranty, has nothing more than a recurring small fluid leak (perhaps only seepage), and the op stated his dealer has repeatedly replaced the seal and has now offered to replace the case.

Ram is NOT going to replace a transmission on an out of warranty truck for such a minor issue.

None of us have been told the extent of the leak. Dodge may very well cover it.

This is one of those let's drag it out and make it personal threads :-laf

The amount of trans fluid that leaks when that seal is gone is not enough for many customers to even notice,it will leave a good film on the pan and may eventually drip to the ground.

So many gripe about the cost of a new truck, then some expect a NEW trans to fix a small leak. Get serious you can't have it both ways.

Ah... ... ... ... ..... the wonders of the internet

Bob, I don't know what the seal looks like, so I'll envision it like a standard seal with a metal collar that's presses into the case. If it falls out I would imagine that water from wet roads when raining could enter as well as leaking fluid. As I have posted, I'm basing my opinion on the fact that it was attempted to be repaired several times with negative results. That fact tells me that it would be serious enough for consideration of seeking an attorney, if I wanted to go that far. All bets would be off when that happens, as long as the attempts were documented.

After reading some of these threads it reminds me of a guy i worked with 15 years ago the place we worked at had a fleet of gm pickups his job was to repair them and every truck that came in would leave with less parts then it was made with at the factory. His favorite saying was gm don't know how to build a truck. So all i can figure is dodge had a left over box of seals and they figured they would put them in the 68rfe. So after reading these threads i realize we no longer need this seal. One more question if i take my front crank seal out will i gain any horse power all and all less drag right?

It is small, not a metal collar just a rubber coating, can almost be pushed in by hand with the installation tool. The shaft that goes through it has another sealing point inside that catches most of the fluid.

As far as the attorney thing... ... ... ... they are trying to help from from what I have gathered and at this point the op doesn't want them to do what they have recommended.

It hasn't ever been posted here how long between repairs or at what mileage so

all the comments on here are just personal opinions and very few who have commented know anything about the seal or how the system works.

This thread has pretty much been abused for the sake of all the opinions being thrown out and very little factual info.

Everyone has their own agenda on this forum as well as all the others

:-laf If you really wanted to help your friend out and not just throw darts his truck would already have been fixed and I wouldn't keep getting e-mails that there was another post on this thread

Bob, I guess that sounds harmless enough, but what I don't understand is why the dealer would recommend case replacement over just what RMckenna stated can and will be done? Your right about not knowing a lot of specifics on the attempted repairs, when I read that Dodge wants to replace trany case I think of the worse case scenario. What got me upset were the personal attacks about my opinion of seeking an attorney for something that was never fixed and documented, especially a transmission defect. I never meant to start such an argument.

Dealers do not have an obligation to replace the entire transmission any more than they have an obligation to replace the entire truck when a part wears out or fails during the warranty period.

Attorneys and lawsuits are a big part of the reason why warranty issues and dealer attitudes are often difficult.

You're whining about this post? You claim that is a personal attack?
