Bought my 2015 a year ago, actuator started acting up, while looking for a replacement, found that dodge has a extended warranty covering it. Great! Went to dealer, they are claiming oil seals on turbo are bad and there for nothing is covered and want $8900 to put in a new one. I have had NO oil usage, no loss on power other than when actuator stops working, but even then I lose all braking, but still have some boost. It works 75% of the time. The mechanic claims he could see oil in the tube. Not sure which one yet. Did this seem legit?

There are parts called seals in the Holset turbo rebuild kit, so yes there are seals.

I do agree on finding another dealer thou.
I agree the seals tend to go, but I'm not seeing any other signs the seals are bad. No smoke, no oil consumption, and no loss of power when the actuator decides to work. I'm going to find a dealer that actually has worked on them, I suspect this dealer doesn't see alot of diesels. Thanks tho!

X whatever on finding a different dealer! The '15's had some sort of issue that they extended the warranty on them. I replaced my actuator with a City Diesel from Genos last Dec. Wasn't a bad job, no fun outside in the cold! Other options if needed. Good luck and keep us posted.

Ok, I give, but you know what I mean. There are no seals to go bad and leak oil into the intake. There are conditions, such as over filling the oil, that will cause oil to be pushed out of the turbo into the tubes. If these “seals” are bad as the dealer states, it would fill the tubes with oil, not seep oil residue.

If the o-ring on the front cover fails will oil not leak into the intake?

Also, oil can get pulled into the intake from an intake restriction such as a dirty air filter.

Wouldn't the turbo shaft have play if the seals were bad?

Not necessarily, but usually. Picture of a rebuild kit for an HX35.

When I rebuilt my HX35 off my '01 and installed it on my '91, the shaft had a small amount of play, but the seals were not leaking. They are like a piston ring.

I had some oil leak into the intake when I lost a boot under high boost one time. Fixed the boot no more oil.
Do the early 4th gens dump the CCV into the turbine housing like the CGI engine turbos?

I believe my 18 was the same as my 22, and it vents into the compressor intake.
