Dealership Service Dept. Ratings

My truck will soon be venturing out from under its Chrysler Max Care extended warrranty. I would like to bring it in to a dealership for a final check-up, but would like to find one with a VERY high diesel mechanic rating.



I know that Chrysler rates some dealership service depts (or mechanics??) as "5 star" rated. I am wondering if there is also a "4 star" rating and if that is acceptable for a check-up and possible repairs. I use 2 dealerships now for some service and I will be contacting them, but wanted to get clear on the rating system first.



CAn anyone give me more details on whether it is the service dept or a mechanic that is rated "5 star" and how those ratings are earned, and also an opinion if a "4 star" rating is acceptable for general truck repair.

Regarding the "star" rating, I believe you're either 5-star or nothing. There is no 4-star. And I believe the 5-star rating is bestowed based on a combination of volume and customer surveys.

Since that is one sided and no real verified facts are shown it is unreliable.



Having a 5 star rating is a mixed bag. Techs are certified at different levels,as with ASE just a rating does not make a good,fair or honest person.

To reach 5 star the dealer has to do what corporate wants... ... ... is that a good thing? In some cases yes. With 5 star rating comes the assurance that they have rated techs at the prescribed number for the size dealership.



As in any bussiness knowing the ones you will be entrusting your baby to is the best way

Forgot to mention... ... ..... max care is not to be confused with a warranty,it is a contract that is very specific in what is and is not covered. If the truck has an issue that is covered it will be repaired but it is not to make your truck like new again. Fiat has been making that very clear lately

I agree

The best way has always been to build a rapport with who ever you are doing business with in any field. It is a mutual trust/respect issue not a random rating.

OK... thanks guys for clearing up the issue with the star ratings... that is exactly what I wanted to know.

I also realize that MaxCare is not for making things new again, but for taking care of real problems. I ALSO have heard that Fiat has been cutting back on warranty claims, so I'll just have to see what happens...
I have good rapport with BOTH of the dealerships that I have used in the past, just wanted to be able to better suss out the mechanical abilities of one of them.

I think the Chrysler Five Star dealer ratings were abolished a year or two ago.

Harvey, didn't the five star ratings leave when Daimler left Chrysler?

I don't remember when. I know only that I read the announcement somewhere that the rating system was abandoned.
