Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Truck won't start

As luck would have it my second lift pump failed just shy of 130k miles this week. Was going to buy one and swap it myself but being as busy as I am and with the truck stranded on the side of an interstate I called the local dealership and had them tow it and asked them to fix it. Just got off the phone with the service manager and he has informed me that Dodge's new fix is in fact to install the in tank kit. Total bill including the tow is going to come to $805. That's a good bit more than the $300 or so bill that the warranty covered when the first one went at 60k miles. But an extra $500 (less than that because the tow is probably in the $100 area) to have the thing permanently fixed is well worth it IMO. Just wanted to let everyone know where the dealerships are going with these things now.

Now the next question is... how well does the in tank pump lend itself to power uprates? :) The truck is still completely stock. The only reason I've never messed with it is fear of the lift pump. Has there been time to form a common opinion on the in tank pump?

What is this in tank thingy you speak of? I have been off the TDR for a while and havnt heard anything about such a thing. I just put a new lp in in may.

Doug, the new 05 trucks have an in-tank lift pump and I guess there is a service bulliten to change out any bad ones that come in under warranty. It sounds like a good idea but I'm wondering how it would work for those with higher horsepower. I think some of the threads are floating around the 2nd and mostly 3rd gen forums. There is also a kit for the 2nd gen trucks.

Apparently there is now a kit available that uses the the pump (or something very similar) from the 3rd gen trucks that's located in the fuel tank. This puts the pump where it belongs and allows it to push fuel instead of pulling it. Hopefully it will make for a much longer lived and better performing fuel system.

Hu no kidding. Gee I wonder why the jerks didnt tell me about this when the new lp was orderd. Ill have to give em a call. Thanks Doug
