Competition Death of the Show-n-Shine?

In the past 6 years, we have had a show-n-shine during Thunder in Muncie, now Diesel Nat's. In the past, it was held in the "center" of the action and we had 120+ entries. This year we put them right by the action, but not in the center and had 14 entries in 5 classes. Now, as we plan 2006 I am wondering if we should have the ol' show-n-shine or is it dead? Thoughts?

I would give it one more year. It's a new location, now that everyone could see how things work maybe there will be more next year.



What do you get for a trophy? Don't waste any money on a trophy just give away DHRA Diesel Power shirts, hats, gift certificates, etc.



What were the attendence numbers compared to last year?

Part of the problem was that the "show & shine" was more or less just mixed in with where everyone parked. It was not well defined & there were lots of nice trucks on the grounds. Put it on the other side next time or down by the pits instead of the random placement of the "show" trucks this year...

Alot of what I heard from those who came back here was just what was said about not being able to distinguish which trucks were in that part of the program. Two thoughts on my part, Eric... ... ... ...



1. As has been stated, it was not well defined. I didn't know where it was till I just walked up in it. They will need their own " roped off" area. I voted but still don't have a clue who won.



2. At Muncie they were under the trees and cool as you could ask for. At Indy, in the sun, hot as he!!, and nowhere to hide. May be hard to get it going like before without the shade. The setting at Muncie was just ideal.

Eric, I've entered in the S&S for the past 3 years or so. My biggest complaint is that there needs to be a high mileage division, my trucks sitting at 193000+ miles and it isn't going to shine up like a brand new truck, which seemed to be the primary winners of the last few years.



I don't care about trophies all that much, a small plaque and a T-shirt would be a better option than a huge freaking trophy.



I'll second on needing a seperate section for the competition and some shade would be a huge bonus, it was hotter than hell and people aren't going to want to spend time looking at trucks if they have sweat rolling off them.

I wasn't at Indy this year but I did put my truck in the show-n-shine at Schied's last summer. Here are my thoughts about the whole thing:



1. At Schied's, there were 3 classes, Dodge, Ford, Chevy. Instead of those, there should be a classes for daily driven "stock" trucks and a class for the wild paint trucks. I know that some of the guys drive their wildly painted trucks everyday but how can I compete with a guy that has spent $5000 or more on a paint job? Naturally, the guy with the aftermarket paint job is going to catch more eyes than my daily driven, stock paint truck.



2. Another idea might be to have each owner put a sign on their truck that tells you the trucks milage, daily driver or not and how many miles that you drove to get to the event. In my case it would be something like "70,000 miles, daily driver, 350 miles from Linn MO to Terre Haute".



All that aside, I don't really care if I win or not. I just like to show off what a lot of sweat and elbow grease can do for a truck that gets driven everyday no matter what the weather. Those are just my ideas. Not that anyone really cares what my ideas are.

I was thinking the same thing. I didn't get to go to IRP, but I do remember the trucks in the shade at Muncie last year.

I didn't get to see the show-n-shine area this year but I can imagine with the heat this year coupled with the park like setting of Gaston Fairgrounds, it would have been hard to beat Muncie for the show trucks.



Since you are at a new facility Eric, how about aside from the other comments consider a Parade Lap up the return road. That will give each owner a little "stage" time. These guys have some seriously fine rides and I wouldn't mind watching them make a lap.



I think this year it was so hot it took away from some of the fun. Nothing anyone could control.

The area was defined with ROTELLA flag ropes and a ditch. There were also other signs for SNS parking. It just filled up with riff-raff faster than we could move em out. Sorry bout that.



I like Dunbar's idea about a parade lap. We had a couple guys ask about a cruzin loop like the Jambo's. Sounds like a good way to fill in the gaps for the fans in the stands.

I knew I could count on my TDR brethren to help out with ideas! Actually, we'll keep tweaking it until we find the fit for it at IRP. We spent most of our set up time "defining"

where it was by rolling out snow fence and Shell Rotella T barrier. People ignored it and parked in there anyway. I want to make sure people are still interested in participating. Thanks for the replies and Hammer, you were supposed to run it this year???? Where were you?
