Any idea if the steering damper is "stiffer" than the original?

I'm surprised they don't inspect the balljoints as well... :eek:

Steve, think about all the b-joints they would have to replace. If they put them down, they would have to change them. Leaving them off lets them tell the consumer that they need to pay $1,000. 00 to fix this. Thanks DC for still not fixing the problem :rolleyes:

Interesting... I just started having the problem this weekend and had it happen again today. Of course, I'm 4k over the 36k warranty. I guess I'll check the above items.

check especially ball joints (if lowers are bad it changes the caster-this can often be overlooked thinking that the tie rods and dampener should be the culprit(sp) think about a caster on a chair it stands str8 up and down (watch it when u push it fast across the floor ) it wobbles so check anything that may afect caster. hope this helps

Death Wobble

Welcome to the club guys. I bought my '97 in '99 with a Death Wobble option... Imagine. Daimler is actually admitting to it... . Way to go Dr. Z. :-{}

I will say that the FIRST thing to hit the payment also causes death wobble. TIRES. My neighbors STOCK 05 dually 4x4 developed death wobble in the high 80k range. Scared the crap out of him. Said he never experianced anything like it. Had original tires RWL Generals. He had front end checked,tires balanced(I kept saying TIRES can cause it)and about pulled his hair out trying to find it. Was looking at ordering track bars and stabilizer etc. At 90odd thousand he FINALLY put on new tires. Same kind,Generals just like factorys. Death wobble GONE. He said he could hit a certain patch of road pulling through Tennessee and he would get white knuckled thinking it was going to happen on a certain stretch of road.

I also had the wobble in my '97. It turned out to be tires as well. I guess if you overload tires or have cheapies, the belts can seperate. When you hit a bump, the belt can go crazy. (i. e. Hit a bump doing 70 and the front end feels like its going to come off, its vibrating so hard. Have to come down to about 20 mph before it would stop)

I actually swapped two stabilizer bars before I figured it out in my 97.

Also wear pattern type of tread pattern. My neighbors were worn great. Just getting to the wear bars and hit a certain dip in the road with gooseneck hooked and he said it was BOY HOWDY. He said you just never knew when it would do it. A few times in a 2000 mile trip etc. Said it was the most violent shake he had ever felt.
