2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Debadging question...

I got my '01. 5 a couple months ago and have been thinking about debadging it. I've got to remove the advertising sticker the dealer put on anyway, so I'm thinking I'll peel off all the decals. My question is, will the paint have faded appreciably since it was built? (It's black, by the way. ) If so, I won't debadge it...

I debadged my Jeep at about 2 years of age, and there was no noticeable fading in that amount of time on its gunmetal paint, so I'm thinking I might be okay on the truck, too, but not sure. What do you guys think?

I debadged my black '99 in '04 and it looks fine. You could kinda see the outlines for a day or so, but a wash & wax and a few days later and you would have to really get up close to see where they were.

I debadged my 96 just this year (and it is black). You could bairly see the "DODGE 4X4" on the tailgate after removing the decals - I used some detailing clay, buffed the area a little and waxed - this blended it well and now you can't even tell they were ever on the truck. Looks good.

How are you guys getting the stickers off? I heard fishing line works real well on the plastic, but what about the stickers?

My stickers peeled off easily with a hair dryer and my fingernail on a nice warm Virginia day.

Did mine on a nice warm day as well. I've heard that a hair dryer works as well, but I didn't need it. I did use a hard plastic scraper (a kitchen gadget made to scrape your burnt dinner from your pots/pans) to get the edges started and then just peeled them off.

Definitely use a hair dryer or heat gun. If you don't you'll likely have some residue left over especially at the edges of the letters. Plain rubbing alcohol works well in getting this off. It's never hurt my paint.

just go to your local paint/body supply shop and pick up an eraser wheel... chuck it up in your drill and go to town... use fishing line or pry the emblems off, and the eraser wheel will get rid of the double sided tape... also removes pin stripes and painted on dealer logos.
