2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Debadging question

I want to debadge my truck and put on some stickers I have. Truck was built in Feb of 2000 so its three years old. What is the best way to go about removing the old badges/stickers??? Was going to use hairdryer and fishing line/dental floss.



And when I put the new ones on I know to strip the wax first, but should I wax it right away???????????



Any tips/help apprciated.

I was able to remove stickers/decals by just pulling at one corner and keeping it going. Don't know about the badges. My worry was the paint color underneath, as I had seen on a previous thread a worry about the paint not fading under the stickers, but did not find a problem, maybe because it is either in the garage or covered parking, while not moving, but your case may be different. Maybe your new stickers will cover the same area, so not a problem?

I waxed immediately after removing.

Kat... . Did the hair dryer thing and nylon mason string... . Used "goo gone" and rubbed the sticky residue off with it. If you are going to put a sticker back on the same spot, clean again with alcohol. The alcohol, will dissolve any wax or sticky tape residue.

I've removed hundreds of stickers in past jobs and found heat with a plastic scraper to work the best. You can find the scrapers at Home Depot in the paint dept. Just make sure the sraper is sharp as possible, apply small amout of heat and slide the scraper under a corner. Continue to apply a small amount of heat as you grab the corner with your fingers and you should be able to pull it off (pull-heat, pull-heat). I've found that a soft towel with brake cleaner works fine to get any glue off (and haven't hurt any paint yet!). Hope this helps, Gordon

Door Moldings

What about the door moldings (black bumper running down the center of the door Horizontally), will the same technique work too?

I did mine with a hair dryer and a credit card. I figure it saved me thousands of dollars because it ruined the credit card, so I could not charge anything on it Also got the decal remover at autozone that got rid of the excess glue. Not a hard job just takes time. Helps if the truck metal is warm (do it in the sun)

Use WD-40..... Spray it on let it sit over night... ... . soak it up good, just remember it will break down all adhesive it comes in contact with..... Soooo if you have body side molding you'll have to take some precautions. The WD-40 will remove any left over residue..... use a terry cloth towel. If the STINK'EEEN BADGES didn't fall off on their own any of the persuading mentioned above will work fine. If you'd like to read a rant or two of mine on this subject search under debadging... ... Basically talking about the pro's and cons of a plasma arc torch and a razor blade... . OH NO... ... ... . DON'T GET ME STARTED!!!!

Yes, I removed all of my molding and badges from my 96- in 2001!! And they paint had not faded enough to be noticeable.



I used the heatgun (wife won't part with her hairdryer ) and nylon line, goo gone and elbow grease for the leftovers.



Then I sold the removed emblems on Ebay:-laf
