I read a comment from a guy in a magazine about the Decelomatic Corp. "Mountain Tamer" exhaust brake. He had one on each of his last 3 Dodge diesels. He said the Mountain tamer works great and does not harm the stock automatic transmission.
I just bought my first Dodge/Cummins, a '98. 5 24V 3500 auto. with 40,000 mi.
When the transmission goes, I plan to upgrade the TC and VB. For now, on my fixed income, I would like to find an exhaust brake that would work, and still let me get whatever service life is left in the stock transmission.
Apparently, Decelomatic Corp has been around since 1971. Anyone out there have any positive or negative experiences with this unit?

Never heard of 'em. You might be thinking of the US-Gear Decelerator, which is an inline style exhaust brake. It mounts anywhere on the exhaust system. Other companies, such as Jacobs and BD-Engine Brake make units that mount in place of the elbow just behind the turbo. Most people are using the turbo mount units. Both are effective but the turbo mount seems to be a cleaner install.

The Mountain Tamer may be a good brake. The price of it changed my mind. I just ordered a a Super Duty Model D-CELERATOR from US Gear. They assured me it would work good with my 24V and auto. Will know more after installing. The only problem with it is you have to get under your truck and cut the exhaust pipe to install it. Where the others bolt on behind the turbo. Can't remember where the Mountain Tamer is there URL is www.mtntamer.com

I inquired about an exhaust brake with TDR members and thought I was the only one with an auto transmission. I went to www.kondolay@home.com and was sent to Stefan(1-604-504-4002) to order trans modification kit. (Haven't ordered yet) I'd like to know of the members results of installation and performance.

I had the U. S. Gear brake on a 94 2500 with automatic and was very unhappy with it. I replaced the electronic control box three times and one time had the entire exhaust and brake blow off on a descent into Laughline, NV. Camping World did the installation which was supposed to be a "lifetime installation guarantee. " NOT! Spent six months trying to get back some of the $450. 00 I spent on getting it repaired.

I have the BD brake on my current vehicle along with the "autoloc" and it works very well with no problems. For my two cents I would go with BD on the brake and autoloc.
