Decipher this code P0483 fan speed

I read code P0483 smarty. Took it to dealer and they claim they saw no codes. I get home and recheck and code is still there. So I cleared it myself and will see if it comes back.



What is this all about I find no info at all on this one?OBDII list show it to be a fan rationality check Bad.



I took it there because of really slow warm up time even under load with grill inserts. I am thinking weak thermostat but dealer refuses to do anything about it and claim its normal even though I try to prove them wrong. #@$%!



Anyone else know about this code or have experience with what it could be?

I get the same code. It is improper fan speed. The fan clutch on these trucks is electronically controlled viscous. They are a bit of problem. These trucks warm up slowly. With my grill inserts in and towing my temp would come up too high for me on hills. The fan wouldn't cut in. Thus tripping the code. When driving at slow speeds with the a/c on the clutch should engage. Mine seems to do this. So I am not sure about the problem. Do a search on fan clutch to learn more.

Almost every truck I hooked the scanner up to had that code, I wouldn't worry about it as long as you don't have a light on, also its probably a stored code so it probably happened a long time ago

Slow warm up can be a t/stat that does not close completely and is cheap enough for you to try. There is also a flash for improving fan strategy. The open exhaust and intake will also have a slight effect on warm up time.

Since you have a modified truck,albeit mild the dealer probably lost interest in helping.

It was a fairly new code from maybe a month ago when I last checked and there were no other codes with it.

Bob All I have done is no muffler and cool hose and psc which nobody would probably ever catch. And smarty that gets unloaded and kept at home when it goes in.



My local dealership will not do any trouble shooting if there is no obvious problem or if they have to take something apart to find. Same ol thats normal no problem found speech. If the Scan tool doesn't show a code theres nothing wrong with your rear end.



The scan tool shows the thermostat is working fine.

If It Keeps Reocuring It Might Be Worth Checking The Harness Plug At The Lower Side Of The Radiator Shroud, I Had That Problem, Found A Loose Dirty Connector Plug...

Had an issue with my fan last summer in my 04. 5. Pulling farm tractor (about 6500lbs total weight) up a significant grade and noticed that the temp was climbing from about 190 past 200 and higher. Even downshifted and kept egt's in check, and never heard the fan come on. Dealer did a flash which must have been a TSB cause he didn't charge me, but I still don't hear the fan go on. Even at slow speed with the a/c on on hot days, no fan. Any ideas?

you really wont hear the fan "turn on" because its already turning when the engine is on but it really isn't engaged until it needs to
