On the way home from Reno today, I got a Check Engine Light. I stopped at a rest area and did the ignition-on-three-times to read the codes, and I got the following:

PCU: 1693

ECU: 0234

I looked on dodgeram.org to see if there was a listing of the trouble codes, but didn't find one. I didn't know where else to look, so here I am. Anybody know of a place?

Thanks!

Rob

Rob,

P0234 - Turbocharger over-boost limit detected

P1693 - Fault generated in the companion engine control module

Hope this helps. BTW, how was the drive from Reno to Concord? I am working in the San Ramon area, but stayin in Tracy, and thinking making the trip up to Tahoe and over to Reno this weekend. If you would like to clear the codes, I have software and cables for my laptop to do so.

Carl:

Thanks for the info on the codes. I dunno why I'm getting an overboost code, because my DD UPM module is supposed to take care of that. What's the other one about?

The drive over the mountains is nice, but I suggest checking out the forecast for Truckee and also the California Road Conditions (http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi) to see if there are chain requirements in effect (if you don't have a 4x4). If there are, plan on an extra couple of hours to get anywhere, because traffic slows to a crawl along the entire route that is affected.

If you want to meet up sometime this weekend, that'd be cool. Drop me a private note and we can figure something out!

BigSaint:

Thanks a bunch for that link!

Rob th ecompanion code is present quite often. i wouldnt loose sleep over it.

the overboost is your problem. check all the connections on your UPM especially the MAP sensor. make sure to look at the pins inside the harness on the MAP. they have been known to push back and not make a good connection. place some dielectric grease on it too.

does the UPM connect to the pump? check its ground and power feeds too. if all else fails weed it out and see if you can get the code out.

you can rent a scan tool from some of the big chain auto parts stores. i did that once for my 95. i had to put a $400 deposit down but got ALL of it back when i returned the tool 3 days later. :D

Do you have a fueling box? I don't know what the UPM is. Anyway, this is a common fault with a box such as VA or PE. One of their failure modes sets the MAP voltage out of limits which explains the turbo overboost.
