When I was looking at both, I drove both 2500 and 3500 back to back and couldn't tell the difference in ride. Look at the standard equipment list for both and you'll see the 3500 had a lot of uprated parts, everything heavier duty. For no difference in price and ride, you're getting a lot more truck. Even if you don't use it, its there, and when you have it, you will find a use for it.
