Deli style roast beef will react to a stainless steel slicer blade sometimes. I retired from the school food service here and we had to slice and use the beef immediately. With all the preservatives in lunch meat it's highly unlikely especially at a high volume restaurant like Subway that the meat had gone bad. Visually, not too appealing regardless. On the road we use Subway a bunch.

I could be wrong, but I believe their meats & cheeses come in pre sliced. I've NEVER seen a slicer there.

I'm also not too good at late night greasy food anymore either. I'm NOT a night person, wife is. Sometimes we end up eating dinner 8-9 at night. Those nights I'll opt for a bowl of oatmeal or grits.

Good point! Neither have I Patriot. Now I'll be more vigilant. Jersey Mike's here does slice theirs on the spot. I'll have to ask Subway next time.

Funny that you posted this. I avoid fast food like the plague, but I delivered a Wildcat to a customer after closing the store, so hit a Chik Fil A on the way back. It was not bad at all. Eat Mor Chikin LOL

Arby's or Chik-Fil-A are about the only acceptable ones anymore for fast food. Service at the various Arby's that I patronize while on the road is hit-or-miss. Service at the Chik-Fil-A's is pretty good, but they are not quite so ubiquitous.

I don't think it's possible for fast food to decline any more than it already is.

I definitely agree that most of the fast food now is for the most part terrible. The wife and I had stopped at a Wendy's a while back and I didn't know what the meat product was in our burgers. Then had a fish sandwich at Burger King a few weeks back and thought I would go into sodium overload. WTH.

As others have said I think a Subway or Blimpie sandwich seems to be the best choice for me. I just can't seem to tolerate the late night greasefest since I'm older.

I did notice in the the grocery stores around here they have some appetizing looking salads with chicken tenders, cranberries, nuts and other recognizable items. Just my 2 cents.

For those of you that have a weak moment and get the fast food fried gastronomic specials pick up some Pepcid chewables.

Oo.
Yep, no fast food greasy burgers and fries for me either. Recently I have found some very good grocery store prepared sliced ham, turkey, and cheese sub sandwiches and salads with non-fried chicken strips and various seasonings; however, I pass on the roast beef types. Even the deli in our local Wal-Mart has some good prepared sub sandwiches and salads, but I check the sell by date before purchasing. If it wasn't prepared either the during the night before or the early morning of the current day, I pass.

I picked up a seafood salad at walmart the other day when my wife was in the hospital. I have to tell you that it was quite good.

Arbys close to me closed up. Jersey Mikes "training center" is close to me as are a few of their stores.
Im not a big chicken guy, but Chick fil a is always spotless, nice servers and fresh hot food.

Mike; I have eaten at a Micky D's or a Burger King since my open heart surgery in 2001. The closes I go to a fast food restaurant is a WI chain called Culver's or Chick- Fil A (wife likes this one). I agree that Subway has gone down hill also in the last couple of years. Some Jimmy Johns subway places are ok but here too you need to look at the meat display to be sure. We also have a local chain called Portillo's very very good Italian beef's and healthy full size salads that the wife orders.

Here is a copy of the MENU;http://www.portillos.com/assets/pdfmenu/969DEEB7ACA84FB6A673BCFD2772F453.pdf They will ship their food anywhere in fact they have expanded to AZ and Calf.

Worked late again last night, story of my life lately...

Drove by all of the fast food joints, making a rude gesture to each on the way by. Petty I know, but gratifying just the same...:D

Got to the house and made something that I haven't had in years...A glass of milk and a fried egg sandwich with cheese and ketchup, and plenty of freshly ground pepper. That did not bother me one bit and I slept like a baby. That will be my late night supper from now on. Eureka!!!

Mike.

I stopped eating all that processed stuff years ago. What a bunch of garbage. Have you read that MickeyD's stock has been dropping ?some people are starting to figure it out. Park in a fast food restaurant about 6 pm and watch all the moms and dads picking up crap for their children to eat for dinner. The closest I get is "In and Out Burger" chain started in So Cal. they are in Texas now.

Wont stop at ANY CHAIN fast food (aka fat food) for a burger, most times if we are out and need to eat Subway or Quiznos

Mike you made reference to Gas Station Sushi, after delivering fuel for 27 years, I can tell you some things that would make you wear a Hazmat Suit just to put fuel in your car!!

My Mom and I usually eat at 2 Mexican restaurants (we know the owners). The best fast food restaurant around here is Taco Bell. The other fast food restaurants are going down hill (McD's and BG). We also eat at two fish restaurants.
