Would like to hear from those who are shifting 6 spd w/o clutch, of any problems when doing so, suggestions for doing same. Also 2 tags on Xmsn say use of any other lubricant other than MOPAR P/N 4874464 voids the warranty. I have been told that Valvelene makes a manual synchromesh Xmsn oil called TRACLOC which is a blend of synthetic and mineral oils, which I am considering using after warranty. Would apperciate any input tnks.

This was shifted around recently and it seemed like most of the guys recommend using the clutch when shifting. I always use mine. Sometimes I double clutch while down-shifting just for fun. One of the guys said "it was put there for a purpose, use it. "

I don't think the syncronizers like the no clutch shifting as much as I would like to use it. It's a different transmission than the big Eatons and others found in the big trucks. I like no clutch shifting but have avoided it with this tranmission because of the syncronizers.

Sorry about the no clutch shift question, haven't been online since last fall, was busy buying/tricking out my new truck. Am still interested in any comments about using synthetic/synthetic-blend in 5600 Xmsn. tnks

I don't know that anyone has done a test on synthetics in the 5600. Supposedly, the additives in the recommended Texaco lube are required for the syncronizers to work properly. Also, the blend of this lube is such that supposedly it's the only lube that meets these requirements. Until a manufacturer successfully demonstrates their substitute lube will work I wouldn't change over to it. As much as I would like to change to synthetics, for now I believe we are stuck with the Texaco.

Well, 10,000/15,000 miles on Amsoil in all the Gearboxes except power steering and engine, Shifts Better every day. Break in was interesting when synthetic was first installed as it was very hard to get into gear. (that startled me!) This corrected itself within 200 miles. I suspect this was interaction with the old lube in the syncronizers. The difference from petro to syn was noticable.
I have run synthetic lubes in everything I own since the early 80's and have never regretted doing so!

Ak, welcome aboard. If you have access to TDR issue 31, there is specific information about using the clutch when shifting the 4500, and I believe that this applies to the 5600 too. Basically it statedt that the 4500 is built like an oversized car transmission and that there is a special coating on the syncro's that is not tolerant to clutchless shifting. It stated that the clutch must be used for shifting. The 5600 is not built like a large over the road transmission, which is designed to be shifted with double clutching or gear matching.

I've run the Amsoil series 3000 5w30 eng. oil in my 6spd. for 80K mi. now with no problems, will probably change it at 100K.

I always use the left pedal. I know this old timer who use to be a heavy equipment mechanic and then he use to work at a truck driving school giving exams and training people who wanted their CDLs. He said that if the guy taking the exam didn't use the clutch he wouldn't pass him. It was put there for some reason.

I rarely use the clutch in the big truck, but always use it in the dodge. The biggest reason is syncronized vs. non-sycronized. Syncros don't like clutchless shifting, it's hard on them. Also the closer ratio spacing in the 13sp makes clutchless shifting easier. But the main reason is the syncro issue.
