Deep Air Horn?

I'm thinking about getting an air horn now that I have a York OBA mounted on my truck. My brother has Grover 1600 somethings, and they're loud enough, but not nearly deep enough for my taste. What type of horn will have a deeper tone? a longer one? single horn versus double?

if you've ever seen the movie "jeepers creepers" i want air horns like the creepers has on his old panel van nice and loud

A look at the poorly done, difficult-to-navigate Grover Products Company website will show you horns to 37½ inches.

Do a search on my name for a long post I did about my experience over 12 years with my Grover air horns, compressor, etc. , plus I've been to the Grover factory in east Los Angeles. The Grover compressor is not a well-engineered unit; mine broke down fairly frequently; the connecting rod in the compressor can be either steel or aluminum -- the aluminum one won't hold the bearings; Grover now has a policy of adding a $25. 00 surcharge to all orders under $200; this is to discourage dealers from placing small orders, but kills people like us who want the $29. 95 rebuild kit and have to pay an extra $25. 00 for it if we don't live within driving distance of east Los Angeles.

That should get the attention of the tin can that cut you off.

Agreed. A look at the Rickson site that I linked will show that Rickson is selling a compressor from Thomas Pumps rather than the POS Grover compressor. Thomas Pumps are first class.



I too have telephoned and visited Grover Products Company. It wasn't my favorite L. A. neighborhood. Its probably easier (and cheaper) to deal with Rickson.

PullinRam, I posted a few pics of the overall thread a few weeks ago- search under my name for recent posts. We're working on a bracket for my brothers truck as well so we'll get pics of that and better detail of mine up soon. Do you have pics of the bracket you bought? Who's selling them? Lucky you... took me forever to get this thing how I want it...



Yo hoot, thanks for the link... I've been checking ebay... but have stayed away from loco horns, those things are spensive! But dang, that's a cool looking horn! And no potential for rust, either.



I found a few in the 34-37" range... think that'd be long enough for a deep note?

i almost got my hands on one like that from work [±7" bell, ±28 long - cast aluminum]. it was brand new, but one of the mount ears that allow the trumpit to bolt to the pedistal was broken. it was scrapped before i got to it i just would have tapped the hole with an 1/8"npt [it's only an 1/8" hole where the air goes in] oh well. . some other day maybe...

The guy that made it, made 3 or 4 of them for a few of us over on PavementSucks.com . He has the same one on his truck but doesn't have an real good pics of it installed. One of these days i'll get around to mounting it. Pictures of your next install would be great!
