Well it finally happened. Got a doe on Monday night.

Clipped the front drivers side of the bumper (didn't appear to damage the bumper - just left some hair at the fog light) and knocked it about a quarter of an inch out of alignment.

The real damage is where the deer bounced off the drivers door. Pushed in the door about 4" at the center. Both the front and rear of the door are now out about a quarter of an inch. :{

I have been thinking about upgrading the bumper already to a heavy duty one - now I know I am. Even though the bumper handled it pretty well - I would rather know that you can take em head on instead of them dribbling down the side of the truck.

Does anyone have a Dixie Manufacturing Bumper on their truck?

Like what I see on the website but want some real world info instead of marketing.

Thanks,

Ouch!!!

Sorry to hear that, find a good body shop and it will be fixed. There are lots of bumpers out there do a search and you will be able to see some pictures.

Sorry to hear of your accident... I am scared to death about hitting a deer with mine. . The only time I am really out in the country at night I am pulling a trailer and I am more worried about that thing hitting the front end and blowing out the inter cooler and putting me dead in the water...

Good luck with the insurance co's.

Sorry to hear about your accident. I live in fear every day, travelling 45 miles each way to work and over half is potential deer country. There are a couple dead on the side of the road daily.

One thing about hitting a deer with my insurance is that it's a no fault accident. Hopefully that will be the same with your insurance and they will take care of you.

Best of luck,

JT

Sorry to hear about the your incident... ... ..... I too am afraid of an encounter such as yours. My new "used" Oo. Oo. bumper just arrived and it's going on tonight. Just bought a Buckstop with winch and lights... ... ... . hopefully get it on tonight.

Deer can mess it up

Like the others have stated "sorry about the damage to your truck". The county I live in is one of three here locally that does not have a deer hunting season, very few of them around, but we do have some you will see every so often. About 5 years ago we got to noticing this nice 8-point buck just outside of town standing next to the road early in the morning off an on there for awhile. We would usually see him right before daylight. One morning there he was on the side of the road dead, our only nice deer in the county :-laf we found out later the guy that hit him was out-of-state an from a heavy populated deer county. Could'nt be a local to hit him had to be someone not from around here, I felt sorry for the guy really. He sure was a nice 8-point though. :(

Same thing happened to me last week on the way to New Mexico. The way my bumper is shaped, angled down and to the back, it just drives whatever you hit down and you run over it. I had a little damage right behind the wheel well on the right side but not enough to even bother fixing. It was a bit of a mess getting him off the landing gear on my trailer though. Four point buck, opened the season about two weeks early.

Front bumper

When we were in the San Antonio area darn near all the trucks had some sort of bumper/grill guard. When we went into the hills north of town we saw why. We stayed an extra week or so while ours were built to our specifications. Wouldn't be without them, particularly the front, while towing the 5'er around the country. I call mine the "80 mph hit a deer and clean 'em off with a hose" bumper... . A bit of an exaggeration, but take a look at my reader's rig photos... from www.southtexasoutfitters.com and as I recall, the front only was reasonably priced. .

Thanks for all the condolenses.

Got my estimate yesterday - about $1,400.

They are going to try to put on a new door skin - not sure how well that is going to work - the whole thing looks out of wack to me.

The shop I am taking it to is the best in town - did some work on a previous Dodge that also had a mishap with a deer for me and did a great job.

I have about 20 miles down 2 lane roads in a heavily deer populated area - should have gotten the HD Bumper earlier instead of now as hind site.

The web site for the bumpers I am looking at is the www.dixiemfg.com mentioned above.

I too feel sorry for you, but i solved my deer worries... . I put a Caterpiller D11 bulldozer blade on the front of my truck, and a 1,000 rounds per minute machine gun with heat seeking laser guidance. Problem is. . my truck doesnt move because of the weight. So i cant hit deer :D
