Was picking up the pieces of the front grill and headlight assembly of my 81'chevy that I had given to my niece when I found a deer whistle on the pavement that had once been on the bumper.

Back in high school, my friend had a chevette that he put like 8 or 9 of them on between the hood, bumper, and roof. He even had one on the front dash for good measure. Besides being good for laughs, he never did hit a deer with it.

A friend of mine was very concerned about hitting deer where he lived in northern FL. I installed some on his van and told him not to worry. Later he told me that he didn't think they did anything, I asked if he'd hit anymore deer this year and he said "nope". So we concluded that they work. ;)

You already have one big one mounted on your truck. Bolts to the exhaust manifold. ;)

I don't really think these things work. I've seen people have to buy another set because they last set broke when they hit a deer.

I fixed this problem with my bumper. Bring 'em on. Just as long as they don't jump through the windsheild. And there are enough of them around here.

I don't believe in them. I had a set on my 94 chevy... nailed 2 deer within a month's time. I built an all steel bumper just for the sake of wildlife. Someone at the last DFW dyno day said it looked like it belonged on the front of a train :-laf. So far it has survived two heavy impacts with nothing more than chipped paint, so wildlife isn't a problem :D. It's funny, ever since I put it on, deer don't jump out in front of me anymore... hopefully it'll stay that way.

Thanks guys, that's what I figured they did.

I would just get a big RanchHand style bumper and be done with it, but they just don't look right on a 2wd IMO.

thanks once again,

Andrew

I guess my truck don't look right then.  :D :D :D :)

I lived in SW wyoming for 38 years where HY 30 west was considered to be the highest deer road kill ever recorded for any highway and I got to see what worked and what didnt and as far as I could see the deer whistles did not work as advertised but what I did learn was that the whistle of a turbo going from high rpm down to low rpm and then back up again was the ultimate in results, I laughed my silly silly *** off :D ( for those who know me) many times as a big buck would be hauling off with his head shaking. So I guess what I am saying is that yes there is a certain frequency or whistle that does bother them. We the Cummins owners do have a built in whistle at our disposal :D :D :D

The one tip I can give about any animal you meet on the road side is that if his head is down and he is grazing than you are usually OK but if his head is up than expect him to run right infront of you OR even into the side of you!!!!!! I have been there too.

cheers, Kevin

I think the whistles don't make a sound that repels deer but more just a sound they can hear and turn the other way just because somethings coming especially since many modern cars are so quiet. Our trucks are loud enough that it doesn't matter.

Save your money

Research I saw in hunting mag proved that the noise gets their attention but doesn't necessarily "repel" them. If they are in middle of road you are going to collide. If they are close to road you may cause them to cross road and another collision. Only if they are 10 - 20 yards off road will they do you any good. I have lived in deer country all my life and other than driving slow and being wide awake there is nothing you can do. I have hit 3 and been hit by 1.

I've personally hit one and been hit by one. The advice given to me by the Virgina State Police that found me after my first encounter was as follows... ..... if you see a deer coming into your path, aim for him! He said I'll miss him every time. Haven't had a chance to test his advice since... . thankfully :)
