Bob,

The 250# is not the Legend series, it is the Summit which is lighter, and again cheaper.

I have to disagree. I made sure we were looking at the Legend, because that's what I bought... schedule 40 pipe and all.

A Mexican driving a Ford Fiesta made a very stupid left-hand turn in front of me back in Jan. and I got a UTE Bullbar out of the deal! He got his ins. raised! :-laf

Love that UTE. It's 3/8" & 1/4" solid aluminum, and only weighs about 135# or so, anyway I lifted it by myself and positioned it by myself before getting a buddy go hold it in place while I bolted it up. I paid about $1900 for it, but the Senor's insurance paid $1500 of that. I'm very happy with the bullbar--I polish it every few months or so with Mother's Mag Wheel polish. The UTE is supposed to be deer-proof up to about 70 mph or so, hopefully I won't have to find out it that is accurate.

Bob,

From what my guy told me, the Legend weighed in around 350, and the Summit was approx 220#, however #@$%!, I will call him this a. m. and find out if he's blowin smoke up my behind or not..... Thanks for the heads up.

I didn't know deer could run so fast ;)

heh :) yeah. I was driving north, the dear was running east. the distance between the cars at the time was a surprising 2 to 4 trackor trailer lengths. Not like there was any traffic. You'd think they would see a truck and adjust their path a little.

I was just wondering if you hit someone with one of these bumpers would insurance not want to cover the insane amount of damage you did because of this Super HD bumper.

I've thought of that. Right now I believe the ins. companies are too stupid about this subject to do anything. But all it would take is a few lawsuits and big settlements for them to wake up. I remember in the 1960's it took them awhile to catch on that they could jack the ins. cost up on high-performance cars. Maybe high-perf diesel trucks and high-perf bumpers are next. Hope not!

I'd sure hate to buy that $750 bumper get in a wreck, total some car, and then have the insurance company tell me that they wont cover it cause I altered OEM saftey "feauters". They can always say that bumper caused more damage than was necessary to the other car and possiby to your own truck. If all that rigidness bent your frame and the air bags didnt go out them might start pointing fingers. Makes me wonder if I should buy that bumper today  .

I think you guys have run out of things to worry about, so you've started inventing them. :-laf

These bumpers have been around for a lot of years and serve very real utilitarian purposes. Read: work truck.

As for the air bags, they're inertia-activated. In other words, they go off when the truck stops too fast... way faster than the brakes will do it. There are no sensors on the bumper. I think the inertia sensor is located under the dash, but don't quote me on that.

As long as we're showing off deer killers...

Whattya think of this one?? Obviously the fit and finish isn't there with the $1500 jobbers, but for $100 worth of 2" x 3" x3/16" tubing and a boatload of hours spent R+D'ing I think it'll splatter Bambi with the best of 'em. Best part is... I still have fully functional towhooks.
