There was someone on a facebook group I belong to the has a 2015 Ram 3500. They had a EVIC warning come up on their Ram was the one that in a certain number of miles truck would slow to only 5 mph. The took it to a dealer who told them that they had put contaminated or defective def in the tank and they would have to replace the whole def system at a cost of $5000 and that their warranty wouldn't cover it again 2015 truck. Anyone have any info as to the issue thanks. Also the got it at walmart and there brand.

Always tell the dealer you used "Mopar" DEF. They will always blame the fluid which can't be proven one way or the other.

First things first....One has to determine what defines this particular owner's DEF issue as "contaminated" or "defective".

If it is indeed "defective" DEF.....the customer should pursue the retailer of the DEF and file a claim there.

If it is NOT "defective" but is "contaminated"......one needs to determine the reason behind the "contamination".

Was the "contamination" due to a bad batch of DEF??? If so....the customer, again, should pursue the retailer of the DEF and file a claim there.

Was the "contamination" due to vandalism or accidental introduction of diesel fuel into the DEF tank??? If so....the customer should pursue a claim with their own automobile insurance company.

I'm betting, in either case, that the problem (and prudent way of fixing it) could be easily solved by simply draining and cleaning the tank.

I'm still in The Stone Age.....and do not have (nor ever will have) a Facebook account. :-laf I believe about 1% of what I hear on FB.

This is part of the post. On Monday morning we were told that the batch of DEF fluid we bought from Walmart was defective probably because it was stored incorrectly (should be stored between 20-80 degrees Fahrenheit) and that the whole DEF system had to be replaced at a cost of about $5000. this is from an RV group I do use facebook I like it, but never ask an RV group about my Ram diesel. But I was asking so They could be better informed about their truck. 1 would they really need the whole def system need replaced and.

If it were contaminated with any hydro carbon than yes it would require complete replacement.I doubt that is the case more likely it needs to have a tsb performed

This is tough to call without the associated DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) that caused the message. It can be as drastic as that or as simple as a software update and/or sensor change. Technician proficiency goes far here.

I bought DEF at Walmart a few years ago and had the same issue with my Duramax they had to put a new tank and Nox sensors in the truck. After that I bought the Dodge. I don't buy DEF from
Walmart anymore. They carry the Peak brand.

Was it the Blue Def by Peak that you used in your Duramax that was bad. I've never any trouble with Blue Def. And I have used it a lot. I would say the have the only one stored in a box which cuts sunlight if they store it in a real hot area that would affect it.

Yes it was the Blue Def by Peak. I'm not he only one who has had trouble with there Def here in Texas. That's my opinion.

I buy my DEF at a huge discount in plain, unmarked containers from a sketchy looking dude down the end of a dark alley.
