Got my first check engine light on Saturday morning. I remote started the truck and it started, I walked away from the window and when I went out it had shut off on it's own before the 15 minute time. I got in and started it again and it had the check engine light on. It has been on all weekend then this afternoon while driving, I got the DEF Service Required message. Anyone else had this? Def tank is half full, fuel full, truck runs fine, 6000kms on it, -20C to -32C this weekend (-5F to -22F). Of course the remote start won't work while it has a check engine light on so now I'm the command start.
Hopefully the dealership can look at it tomorrow morning for me. Not impressed, already??? Still fighting with the 07.5 that goes into a limp mode with no codes that is keeping me from being able to sell it, don't need the new one to start having issues already.

2007: did you try dis connecting the Edge? On other post trhough out the 5.9 and 6.7 Edge was the problem. Also codes could be coming on because you deleted emission components.
Hopefully on the new truck it will be only the def heaters are not working.

On the 07.5 I'm actually running a smarty jr. right now and have been on the phone allot with Madds and tried different soft ware and nothing has helped. They say that the only things that trip the Catalyst full message without a code is a low fuel pressure issue or the exhaust pressure differential sensor showing a difference in the before and after filter pressure. I put a new one of these filters in to eliminate this possibility, but didn't help. I just changed the FCA on the cpm just incase it was sticking and causing a brief second of low fuel pressure, but that didn't help. Low fuel press is at 12-16 psi and rail pressure is at 5000 at idle and will go 26000 psi when I step on it but within a few seconds the limp mode is tripped, so I know the CP3 can provide the needed pressure. I've unplugged the edge completely to make sure it isn't the culprit as well as switching between the two in trying. I may try replacing the rail pressure sensor next. I know that one of the "sim's" that were plugged into the harness where the three get seniors were in the exhaust had signs of melt down, so I removed them since the smarty supposedly doesn't need them anyway. From my searching, you can't buy these "sims" anymore which sucks because I would just replace them and run the edge as I was before with no problem.

I would guess something related to frozen def also. How long have the trips been when you were driving? I think the system is not supposed to call for def below a certain temp for about an hour after startup.
Matt

Turns out my rear fuel heater wasn't activated like many have posted about. I assumed that it was because I've been through a few -40 spells with no problem. So the service DEF system warning doesn't necessarily mean it has anything to do with the DEF system.
That helps.
