I have the older version that requires removing the tow hooks and has three tabs for lights. Excellent product. I got mine through Cari Suspensions who works with Defiant. Customer support is second to none. Trust them... they take great care of their customers.

They are running a special on the old style... ask about them. It's strong enough at the mounting point to use for pulling moderately with. You can unstuck a truck or car using the light bar if you use a strap at the mounting area.

Also, my Western Ultramount "V" Plow fits without interference.

You have sold me on the Defiant Light Bar! How many tabs (lights) do most use?

Most of my night driving is on long highway usage (So Cal to Cedar City, Utah) and the stock lights just don't cut it. Have almost hit a deer or two as well as debris on the road as well.

Was it the Defiant Bar that was used as a "jacking point"?

Dick

The standard is 3 tabs for the lights. I like it that way because I can still rest my knees on the bar with the lights in place. With the CUSTOM 4 tabs you can not do that.

I saw virtually no damage(chipped the coating a little) to a Defiant light bar when a UPS truck backed into it hard enough to move the truck. I know the Ellis bar would not have even been in the right place to have saved the bumper.

Cleaner and functional are two different categories, I have seen these light bars in action, you can jack-up your truck if need be in the sand, or use as a pulling point for a strap even stopping front end carnage cause a animal popped out of noware. Plus they look good too.

You know those damn Los Angeles pedestrians! Even worse are those little Corollas.

Regarding the Ellis bar, it's a nice bar, but a different style. Those of us on the west coast generally emulate the offroad baja race trucks. As a result, the light bars out here follow that style. The Ellis bar, although only from nearby Arizona, follow a slightly different style. To each their own.

Also, the bar mounting stock on the Ellis is 3/16" where as the Defiant bar is double that at 3/8. " With that much weight on the bar, I think the added girth is useful.

I took some pictures of the switches, but haven't uploaded them into my computer yet. Sorry.

Defiant 3 tab purchased today

Today I drove to Defiant, met Paul, purchased and installed a 3 tab bar.

IT IS DEFINITELY "STRONG" AND LOOKS GREAT!!!!

Paul and his crew "run" a very clean shop!!!! It is impressive just to visit, and Paul is very helpful in answering any of your questions. And he really knows Dodge Trucks. In fact, I think that a lot of his guys as well as Paul have Dodge diesels.

As you read, my truck bio, note it is 2 wheel drive. This bar fits perfect. I also installed Dodge's tow hooks at this time as well. Even though, my truck is 2 wheel, I do see enough offroad that I'm concerned about getting stuck.

Next item from Paul is a Rock Shield for the front end to give me better protection up there.

Thank you ohnoitsyu for giving us your experience and understanding, that led to this happening!

Thank you Paul for your Product(s)and your willingness to share your knowledge!!!!

Here are a couple pictures of my switches.

For the pic with four switches:

Top Left: Euro lights

Top Right: Pencil lights

Lower Left: 100watt PIAA backup lights

Lower Right: 200 Amp relay for jump-start connectors

The light switches have blue LEDs and the relay has a red LED.

The single switch on the right side is for my air compressor, switched upward it's ignition activated all the time with a pressure sensor, and switched down is on any time as needed.

They available at many of those hole-in-the-wall electrical supply shops. I bought these at Ford Electronics (no relation) in Buena Park, CA, and I've also seen them in Orvacs in Fullerton and Torrance Electronics in... well... Torrance. They're pretty common.

The LEDs are your standard 3 volt variety, requiring you to use at least about 680 ohm resistors. This leaves the LEDs a little too bright, I think. I'm now at about 1000 ohm, and I think they're still a tad too bright. Next I will try about 1500 ohm.

I'm going to have to run resistors to run these switches for the led light. Is their any other option.

What brand lights are those and where to find lightforce lights? (Will 4 lightforce lights sit on the four tab defiant bar?)

Nice Smiley face there...

Sweet setup! Are those the HID versions? If I were to buy lights (I got mine in a trade), I would have been seriously looking at the Solteks. I'm still looking at the Soltek Fuego lights for my 450X.

And I thought my hood release was difficult to access! Open your hood yet? :-laf

I know what you mean about wanting a plug-and-play setup, but I'd customize if even if I did have something like that (but many, many years of doing automotive electronics for a living makes it easy to do my own).

Bajadesigns soltek halogen, I am not sure what the dimensions are on the light force lights, just call Paul at defiant he will lead you in the right direction.

HID nope thats about 2000 bucks in lights to rich for me. And the hood is not a problem.

Paul Fox is the owner of Defiant Truck Products... and their lightbar is sweet. Mine has 150K on it with no issues, in fact one of my racing buddies that I was visiting in Pahrump, Nevada liked it so much we took it off and I installed it on his new 07 Dodge Ram and I got to get back to Defiant to get another... .

The one that was on my truck was bruised, battered and beaten on the dirt roads of Baja and is still ticking...

just installed the 3 tab bar over the weekend. I was impressed with the look and construction of the bar. Now I just need the lights, can anyone suggest some that won't break the bank.
