The 24 valve engines are computer controlled - I won't get into the PCM (powertrain control module), the ECM (engine control module) or the intelligence built into the VP-44 fuel injection pump, but all have/are "computers".



If a computer sees too much turbocharger boost or engine RPM approaching redline, it signals the VP-44 fuel injection pump to reduce the amount of fuel it's delivering to keep the engine from damaging itself. That's "defueling".

in racing applications it's when the motor reves up to quickly and the ecm pulls back fuel. you will get 3 surges while it defuels. it only does this in 1st gear.

bd-power has a box that elimates this.
