Last spring I relocated the stock LP & Filter assy to the frame just fwd of the tank - with let's say a bit of "Yankee ingenuity" ;) . Anyway, I it's been hashed over at least a million times that the stock LP is poor :-laf (an understatement I'm sure).

So, in keeping with the Yankee ingenuity spirit - I'm seeking info on the minimum stock LP, rate of flow (gph), pressure, and if there are any other pertinent numbers that should be considered "for a 99". My intent is to locate an inexpensive  alternative to the Carter which will work with diesel fuel.

I will share my findings if worthwhile. :D

Thanks

2003 and up which is electric spec as was told by me a cummins tech 12-15 psi and 48oz in 30sec which would be one cycle of the key on the new trucks...

Huh? Anyone?

Joe,

The latest TSB I've seen on this is 14-002-03 Dated Apr 11, 2003.

They call for 45 oz of fuel in 25 seconds. The test is done with a 36" clear hose connected to the output side of the lift pump. Cycle the ignition key and bump the engine to get the LP to run. (NOTE: The transfer pump will run for less than 2 seconds (varies with ECM calibration) when the key is first turned to on. When the starter is bumped, the transfer pump will run for 25 seconds). Watch for bubbles in the fuel stream. After all bubbles are out of the fuel, empty the container and then cycle the ignition key and 'bump' the engine to get the 25 second LP run time. They don't talk about pressure at all.

If you can't get the 45 oz in 25 seconds, they have you check the vacuum on the tank side of the pump. Any more than 6in Hg vacuum, they want you to find the restriction in the tank side lines.

Hope this helps.....

Mick
