Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Changing the Power Steering Pump

I just inherited my father-in-law’s ‘98 dodge diesel 24 valve 4X4 supercab dually. While cleaning out his garage I found 16 unopened gallons of oil in the original cartons. Should I use it, donate it to a mission that restores cars for charity to sell, and use a modern synthetic oil. If I do switch to a modern synthetic oil, which oil use I use. The diesel has just over 100,000 miles on it.
Thank you,
frank

Use it. Retired from a Chevron Marketer (17 years) and I use Conoco Phillips Guardol ECT in my 2001.5 with 210K. It is a Syn Blend and a better choice for the money AND performance. Delo is not what it once was in the market. As a matter of fact, none of the oils are stand outs since the specifications change quite often. None of the producers feel that it is worth the time to develop super formulations, do the testing, and get approvals, which cost multi millions of dollars. There just isn't enough time between new specs to make back the money spent, and a profit, before a new spec is needed. I used Delo for the first 12-14 years that I had my truck. No knock to it. there is another story behind my reason to switch to Conoco Phillips, but that is another story.

AMZ/OIL 15-40 Diesel and Marine non LE oil is great IMHO. I have ran it 10k in my 98 12V and in my 01 24 valve and they say to run it a few thousand longer next change.

My friend went 22k on his 13 and Blackstone told him to go 24k next time.

I love driving and towing my BIG 5er all winter with my 15 but summer comes along and I want to get back in the 01 Sport using it to tow my Boat.
