Delo 400 sde (up date )

I need to change my oil, in my 97. I've always used delo 400 C-J 15W40, but I see its changed, now its Delo 400 SDE (API CK-4/SN) 15W40,. Can I still use this new formula in my 97?

It carries the CES (Cummins Engineering Standard) 20086, so you have no worries.

In case your interested, here is some info on the CES numbers and what they mean.

"In May 1998, Cummins created an oil registration process to approve and list all engine oils to be used in Cummins engines. Since 1998, Cummins has become a global company, and the earlier process was specifically tailored for the North American market making it inadequate to handle oils that are manufactured around the world.

On June 1, 2014, Cummins announced its intention to temporarily stop oil registrations for CES 20074, CES 20075, CES 20076, CES 20077, CES 20078 and CES 20081.

To meet this global need, a new process was developed to ensure Cummins' customers around the world will be able to procure oils meeting Cummins Engineering Specifications. The new process requires oil companies to provide in depth data and an oil sample to be analyzed in order to prove that they meet Cummins Engineering Specifications. Once the data has been reviewed and compliance is validated, the oil company receives a registration agreement from Cummins that allows them to claim that they meet Cummins' specifications.

After restarting its Oil Registration process last year for CES 20074, CES 20075, CES 20076, CES 20077, CES 20078 and CES 20081. CES 20085 was also added. Cummins in the fall of 2015 then issued its initial lists of registered motor oils meeting these Cummins Engineering Standards."

Cummins has established new standard CES 20086 for the new API CK-4 diesel engine oils and CES 20087 for the API FA-4 diesel engine oils.

An extra part of this process now includes audits of products to assure that the quality is equal to the submitted samples used for registration. These samples are taken randomly by Cummins personnel and submitted to the laboratory in Columbus, IN. If they do not pass, discussions are arranged with the oil company to determine the cause and remedy. If these discussions do not produce a remedy, the oil loses its registration and is taken off the list of registered oils."

Last time I was in Sam's club they had CJ4, but Wally world had nothing other than CK-4 Dello' 400 isgood stuff

so wait a minute, from reading this i can use the 10/30 in my diesel?

I don't think Cummins recommends 10w30 for the 6.7 (yet). But engines like the isx 15 have been spec'd for 10w-30 for 3-4 years now. The CES requirements ensure that certain test criteria are met or exceeded (valve train wear, piston scuffing, roller follower wear tests, etc). But viscosity is engine platform specific.

Well that's good news, as i have close to 200 gallons of 15/40. had the chance to get 60 gal of 10/30 VPB for 6$ gallon, turned it down.
Thanks for the clarification.

Ok, so it's been about 5 month since I changed my oil and filter, and this is the first time I've used the new formula Delo 400 sde.I have use delo 400 and my Dad has used delo 400.What's changed is I've notice the oil has stayed clean looking after 5 month's, before, after a couple of day's with the old formula, the oil would be black again. Is this normal? Plus I notice the oil pressure fluctuates more, stays in the normal range , the needle just moves more than it did before, about 45 to 50 on start up, and once warmed up 35 in gear at idle, and driving 40 to 45. .HAS ANY ONE USED THE NEW FORMULA, WITH THE SAME RESULTS?Here is a pic of the oil now.
