Phil,

I totally agree with you on the subsequent version of Delorme's software after 7. 0

With 7. 0, I could use function keys, arrow keys, etc to jump anywhere on the page, zoom in/out, etc...

The newer version substituted voice commands and funky mouse clicks on a less than informative search menu at the bottom of the screen.

I have not looked at the latest version. I wanted to take a trial run with it to see if they acknowledged the error of their ways, BUT, they want to charge you first just to even review the software. That goes with those damn REBATES that are now in vouge. Sell you something at a higher price with the promise of a rebate. Historically, 95% of the consumers will loose the rebate slip, or the receipt, or just forget it until it is expired.

So, I can't vouch for the latest version. From what you have said though, it don't look like I need bother with it.

I have an old Garmin Streets III that is still very useful. Just no trip planning stuff in it. But the goto needle always points towards my destination. Enough for me most of the time except when traveling through a large metro area that I am not familiar with.

3 cents, ka ching... .

4wheelbooks.com Something like $980 complete with overnight shipping. It might be even less now - I noticed Garmin has a $100 rebate on the 2600 series!!

Edit: I tried to pull up 4wheelbooks.com and came up blank. Maybe they lost too much money selling the 2620 at this price! :{ Anyway, I ran a Google search and came up with quite a few places selling the 2620 for less than $1000 - see HERE.
