Howdy TDR gang;
I will be looking for some bigger tires soon. I think that 36 inchs high would make the most of my as of yet unpurchased Skyjacker kit. I'm looking for a good mud tire that will wear great. With a little help from my friends, I have decided on a Ground Hawg-like tire, either a 36 ground Hawg Radial by Denman on 16. 5 inch wheels load range C (2900lbs) or a Firestone super all traction (basically a Ground Hawg) in load range E (4000ish lbs. ) at 36 inches height on a 17. 5 rim.
Now to the question. Does anyone have Ground Hawg Radials? I am wondering how they hold up to the weight of our Cummins? The Hawgs are cheaper and use cheaper wheels, so, unless they don't wear worth a dang, I'll probably get the Hawgs over the Firestones. Plus, I have a slight aversion to detoniating tires!
Thanks for any info gang... Josiah

A guy I went to school with ran 40" Denman Ground Hawgs on a 93 F-350 with 11" of lift and a 460. He ran the crap out of the truck and the tires held up pretty well. As I recall, he never got stuck in 4wd. He has taken much of the lift out and runs some smaller tires now. I've been looking at putting some 36-13. 5-16's on some custom built dually rims with a 5" lift. Probably some Super Swampers because that size seems hard to find. I think they are all good for 10-20000 miles. Thats about as long as I have seen mud tires last.

For what it's worth, the 15-35-16. 5's on my 76 GMC 3/4T ride rather well. As far as wear is concerned, you must stay on top of the air pressure. Small changes affect both handling & wear big time. I hope the radials last longer than my bias ones. I have roughly 12,000 and the wear bars are showing up front.

Hey BigUgly,
Great choice, you have class. #ad
I am running 36"-14. 50 R-16. 5" Ground Hawgs on 16. 5X9. 75 Weld Super Singles. They look awsome #ad
and handle just fine. I have the radials, a must over the Bias ply. They don't make as much road noise as I expected either and handle the wieght just fine so far I have had them for 5 months now check out the pics here. http://hometown. aol.com/sdvorhees/Scottstruck1index.html

Have had the Ground Hawgs on my other trucks and they wore pretty good. Back in the late 80's Regul made a super mud tire called the Trail-Blazer. Sizes went all the way to 44's. I had the 17x40's and what made them so good was the the tread looked like the Ground Hawg but didn't break in the middle kinda like my 46" Goodyears. To be an aggressive tire they sure were quiet and I got over 30,000mi. out of 'em. They don't make that style or the sizes any more(too bad),but the trail blazers now are with the BFG styling in there AT and MT's.

You'll probably get more milage out of the Ground Hawgs than something like the Swamper or the Monster-Mudders with how heavy our trucks are in the front.
