Has anyone purchased a Denver Off Road front bumper recently? I ordered one before X-mas and Lane said it still is NOT ready yet. I have talked to Lane of DOR and he keeps saying just a few more weeks. I was just wondering if anyone else was having problems? thanx in advance. I like the Deal on those front bumpers from 'over the water' but they only come 'shiney' and i need mine BLACK. thanx.

I gotta tell you. As much as I like Layne and his product, his delivery schedule is off. It took me 14 weeks to get my bumper and he quoted 8. I didn't hassle him though, I knew his product was what I wanted :)

I think Layne generally wants to do the product in 8 weeks but he is a one man operation. Don't worry though he'll get it done.

I also heard he's planning on moving his operation to Grand Junction. That might be affecting his delivery time.

It's a great product. If it's already on order, I would wait it out.

paycheck

Yes! I felt your pain also. He ran into unexpected delays with the coaters on mine. I just kicked back, told him to make sure it was right the first time, make sure the coaters took their time, and waited the extra couple of weeks (turned out to be 3-4 weeks late due to my work sched, my having to take a trip up there, etc. etc) but WELL worth the wait... ... .

I just justified the extra wait by remembering that it is a custom piece, built upon order (he really can't keep enough of them to call a stock on-hand). He just underestimates the 'big picture' and his reliance on the coaters.

BTW, you'll LOVE the black coated ones! I know I do. :D

They and he did great by me.....

Did you get the winch too or just the bumper?

For what it's worth, I THINK this is how it went for me. I gave the order in Nov (beginning), picked up truck in Dec (beginning) and had it installed in Jan (mid/late?). So if you ordered in Dec it is/has been longer than usual for him to get it finished... . Might ask why the hold up... Stay on him constantly and you'll remain in the forefront of his memory lobe until it's completed. LOL!

But personally, even if it took 6 months from order to install I'd do it again.

Thank you guys for the encouraging words. I must say Layne has always been polite to me about the whole deal. He tells me the wait is do to the 'move'to G. J. Co. and the powder coaters, and the fact of the one man show! I just wandered if this was just SOP for him or not. As it appears from your posts that this is just SOP than i will just wait with baited breath!! thanx again. Yes i am putting a 12000 warn on the bumper. Now that you have had the DOR for awhile it appears that you are all satisfied with the product, HHmm?

Absolutely satisfied. I can't believe all the comments and compliments I get on it. The trucks get noticed with one on, that's for sure. And an unintended side effect has been the people that seem to think twice about pulling out in front of you. LOL! Just what I was after... . :D

I was eyeing that up too about 6-8 months ago and I sent a few emails and never got a reply so I said pi$$ on it, but I do like the looks of them. I have also called local welders/machinist and they said they can build what I want. So I may just bring them a picture and get one built.

OH!!!

Hey any of you thinking of getting one or looking into it!!!! There is one thing that is not well known but is VERY relevant to anyone looking.

DO NOT USE EMAIL WITH THE DOR BUMPER WEBSITE!!! I talked along time ago about it with Layne and he admitted that he just plain doesn't check, get, or return any of those emails. The page was hosted by someone for him for a while and hasn't really been kept up or maintained. Use the phone number only! He is not computer literate like the members here... . too busy building the quality bumpers. :)

I was one of the many bit by this too as I had sent several queries to him at the email and it wasn't until I called him direct that I found out that info. :( :(

Weight..... I'll check but I seem to recall that it was around 140lbs and very managable by one person (vice the steel ones--Heavy!).

Here's a page that might help, as not too many have found it and it took me awhile before I stumbled across it... ...

http://dodgeram.org/bill_s/front_bumper.htm

As a matter of fact (just looked at page) it has listed weight of 150lbs, but I'd take that as a max, I think the ones I saw were about 136. Maybe the mounting hardware (frame plates/bolts/etc) make the diff.

Good luck.

Brian

Hang in there the wait will be worth it, It took 6 weeks to get my bumper , and it was worth it. it's top notch craftsmanship, I have no regrets going with the D. O. R. bumper. The weight of the bumper is about 135 lbs.

Layne @ DOR told me the weight is 135-140 pounds, pretty light! plus remember you will take off the weight of the stock bumper. Since we are already heavy up front with the mighty Cummins this is one reason I wen't with the DOR. easy on the shocks:D :D

DOR rear bumper

I ordered a bumper from Layne today. He said wait time was approx 8 weeks. He was just finishing up a batch in fact when I called he was at the truck depot to drop some off for shipping. He is getting ready to move out to Grand Junction this month. Where he will now have some help so hopefully the turn around time will be a little quicker in the future.

But even better is I was asking him if he had a rear bumper as well and he said he hopes to be making a rear by mid summer. It won't stick out any farther than the stock and will have a storage compartment in it and use the stock hitch. It sounded really great. Told him to call me when he is ready. He thought that by the time my front was done he might have a prototype to look at when I go pick up the front.

two questions

Any word on the rear DOR bumper?

I found a DOR in a shop in WY that is uncoated and wondered what you guys think a fair price (just bumper) is. I think the guy wants to put some sort of Line-X (diferent brand though) on it. I felt the price for the bumper was VERY high. PM me if you would rather.

thanks!

J

What is the approach angle of our trucks with that bumper on the front? It appears to stick out 3-4 inches farther than the stock bumper.

If i had to pick one high dollar item for my Ram right now, the DOR bumper would be it. After seeing "MacTruck"s its been on my "Must Have" list with the RoadRelay4.

The approach angle is increased due to the fact that the bumper is appx 6 inches higher than the stocker. It does stick out 4 inches further but it's defeated by the fact the bumper sits higher off the ground.

I have an AliArc aluminum deer strainer bumper that looks a lot like the DOR. The AliArc doesn't stick out as far and when I bought it, was $1400 Cdn ($900 US +/-). Delivery time was only a couple of weeks. Was living in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta at the time. By the time I left, there had to be 20+ Dodges with the same make of deer strainer.

Check that. Just looked at the front view of the DOR bumper in the foglight thread. The AliArc has 3 upright struts and factory foglight mounts on the cross bars. Because of the middle upright, my guess it would take a hit dead center better than the DOR. Speaking, that is, from a definate lack of direct experience... seen pictures though.

Giesj:

I talked to Layne last week to arrange picking up my bumper and asked him about the rear. I ordered my front in early april and am just now getting ready to to pick it up. He moved his shop approx 300 miles to fruita co, then had some house problems back in Denver which put him way behind schedule. Anyway mine is ready to be picked up and since I don't live to far and could use a trip west I will pick it up on 8/16. He says he is back in the production mode. I asked him about the rear when I talked to him as we had talked about it when I first ordered. Wondered if he would have a mock up or even a real one to look at. He said he didn't all he had was a pattern just didn't have time to put one up yet. But he did say that it would have storage for a high lift or whatever and that it would use the stock hitch. He described how it would look but I was trying to do about 3 different things while talking to him on the phone and don't really remember. When I go there in a two weeks I will check it out take notes and report back. To make things worse I put an ARB bumper on my wifes fourunner yesterday. I am suffering from bumper envy now.
