Driving to work, check gauges came on and voltage gauge dropped to 0

Got to work safely and just fine. Parked truck, attempted to restart truck and now have a no crank issue. Pop good to find passenger battery overheated and blew battery everywhere.

Did the gauge test sweep. Gave me a bunch of random numbers
C-code
21 15
2315
2311
A7 15
AA15

The first numbers stay the same but the 15 keeps changing each time to do a code pull from gauges. No codes from my code reader or MM3

You pulled the codes for the instrument cluster itself. The correct way to pull diagnostic codes is to turn the key to run, off, run off, and then to run (same way it has been since forever ago). Chances are that if you didn't see anything on a code reader, there are none stored.

Sounds like you have a bad connection on your crossover cable, or the cable itself is bad. ECM reads voltage from driver side battery, and charges the passenger side. When the voltage drops on the driver side, the alternator ends up smoking the passenger side battery.

Only fix is a new crossover cable and a pair of new batteries. Also, a thorough cleaning and inspection of all grounds.

so my dumbass didn’t even reconnect the crossover cable after working on truck this morning. Sleep deprivation bit me in the ass today. Luckily no other damages and upgraded to an AGM battery over the golds

Bad move, your battery's have to be of same type, same size, same age and best from same batch production. Otherwise you're calling for trouble.

Always exchange them in pairs, no matter what.

And hose everything down at the carwash, thoroughly, to get the acid out everywhere or you'll get corrosion like hell.

Exchanged both batteries, ahead of your there on that one. Upgraded both to AGM. Soon as I get out off work and out of school I'll be going straight to the house and rinsing everything off with water once engine is cool!!!! Well aware of having battery acid on crap but on jets not trucks lmao.

Thanks again for all the help everyone, self inflicted pain resolved.

That sucks! We have those days. At least you were able to figure out what caused the issue. On bigger repairs, I find myself making a check list for the reassembly. This way it keeps me on track for when distractions arise! Stop and get some baking soda to thrown on there prior to the hose down, helps get into the areas hard to get at, neutralize the acid. Just a little extra peace of mind to help get it all out. The upside of using AGM's.
