Trailer Brake Fuse Blew Again

As a matter of fact yes, yesterday.

It was slightly worse than i thought the right front spring and A arms were bent. The rest of it looked pretty good considering.

I need to charge the batteries and it should start right up. The rear doors were the only panel to survive without a dent. Which was the most important considering thats were the two little ones were.

I guess this is not too off topic since this thread turned into a discusion about the Arizona DPS.

Friend of mine and his wife were driving through on I40 in their new Acura TL, on the way back from Oklahoma. There was no one on the road and he was cruising along at about 90MPH. DPS officer pulled him over and asked him to step out of the car. Asked if it was ok for him to search the car. My friend was going to say no, but the officer told him he was not giving him a ticket and didn't really want to search but his supervisors told him he needed to search more white people. He opened the trunk and the officer looked at his christmas presents wrapped in the back and told him thank you have a nice day.

We guess he got his video of the day of him searching the car of a white guy.

Oh thats cool, reverse racial profilling... ... well i guess its ok to drive 15 over the limit, but dont you dare drive on the median, at least not after you wreck 80K and almost kill your family due to a freak weather storm.

I paid the ticket and cut my losses..... oh well, the only bad part is unless that SOB is in the getto buying crack i wont get a chance to get even.

Not sure about the quota deal but it is known an awful lot of drugs are being moved out of Arizona via I-40. The quota thing shounds like a good reason to search with driver permission with little hazzle and if he refuses becomes suspect.

Writing a person a ticket is a reason a police officer may get shot. Many people fly off the handle in situations like that.

I've seen a few video's that a police officer mearly walks up to the drivers window of a car, says hello, and gets shot.

Hellllooo? it's a reason. Not a rational, or a good reason, but a reason.

And also to remember that not all DPS are Adam Henry's... ... . there are good ones... . this kid probably just got beat up alot, didn't get into a frat or is just getting back for something else. On another note, for those of us with SRW trucks, what can we do to make towing safer..... I almost flipped a 23 foot bumper pull because my hitch was too high,... . sway bars... . ideas?...

Leaving the whole debate on police and ethics, the best way to keep the rubber side down is run the right tires (load range "E" or better) with the max inflation pressure, make sure that your front and rear suspension is tight and not worn out (steering linkage wear can make towing anything a white knuckle experience), if towing a larger load than the manual suggests, have overloads or airbags, and make sure that you drive to the presented conditions (wet? back off, windy? slow down, wet and windy? consider parking for a while or slow a lot, nice, calm weather? drive within the posted speed limits and remember that you can't manuever like a empty truck... )

I've seen to many RV's turned turtle (along with the tow rig) and it's not pretty, but was usually preventable. There are some conditions that can't really be anticipated though.

Have I towed a lot? Yes and no, I've towed my flat bed car trailer for 60,000 or so miles and RV's off and on for the last 20 years. So far no major upsets.

I can reply to many of the issues raised in this thread. First, the AZ DPS guy. Was this guy and idiot? Sure. I've seen lots of them. After 24 yrs LAPD, and being on a force of over 9000 officers, I've seen all types. The guy that was able to pass all the tests, but doesn't have an ounce of common sense. Therefore the only decision he can make is what the book says. But somebody gave this guy a gun and a badge and told him to do police work. He was probably happy with himself that he actually caught Jason. Doesn't make him right, just an idiot. However, that being said, NEVER, and I mean NEVER write in any public forum anything that would insinuate that a cop could/would/may/should/or anything similar relating to getting shot. I have lost too many friends and partners to ever write anything of the sort, EVER, even in anger.

If you don't like his attitude, call IA (as someone already mentioned). If you want to fight it, go to court. Jason paid it, he knew he did it, and would most likely lose in court, so why prolong the anger. (Jason still should not have been cited).

Second, I have towed a 12,000 pound 5th wheel trailer for about 4 years. First with a 01' long bed 2500 with a six speed. Towed great. Then the same trailer with a 04. 5 long bed quad cab dually with a six speed. Did it handle differently? Sure, lots. The dually was way more stable on the road, in turns, and manuvering. However, would the dually have prevented the TC that Jason described under those circumstances? I doubt it. When that big trailer starts to hydroplane past you on slick pavement, there is very little you could have done to stop it. Actually, if the TC would have occurred in CA, some over zealous CHP probably would have sent Jason a cite in the mail for unsafe speed for conditions. Nothing like rubbing a little salt in the wound.

So, for all of us law enforcement types on the site, if you want to vent about what you want to do to another cop, send it in a PM to someone. Leave the evil thoughts to the ACLU. They do well enough by themselves.

And for the rest of us, it's an old often used line. "Slow down and live".

I'll get off my soapbox now,

Well Jason, Sorry to hear of your mis-fortune. I just have to add... As a fellow officer, I would have told the tow truck guys to sit their *** still and I would have helped a fellow officer out looking for the ring. A fellow Offcier in a strange area on Vacation... Unfortunantly there are ***** out there like that... If he was getting his *** kicked on the side of the road, I am sure he would like for you to stop and help him out...

I would hope that most of us, if not all understand that. I am not in law enforcement but have a few friends that are. Lets face it no matter there are a few in any occupation that are not up to standard shall I say. I can say without a doubt I have never truly had a problem with any law enforcement officer as an adult. I have had run in's when a teenager but I THINK IT WAS ME MORE THAN THEM. Maybe I am fortunate but I don't think so. One will hope at some point the officer being talked about will ultimately be found driving a garbage truck in a few years.

At one time thought I wanted to be a Phoenix PD officer and passed all the test and could have became one. I was fortunate to realize I did not have the character make-up to be a good one. But I sure am glad there are those that can be. Ya have to be a saint to put up with all the stuff they see.

Okay I am done but the last thing I want to say is thanks to all those that have been or still are law officers. You have my thanks.
