Detailing Question

Hello all...

I need to polish my diamond plate running boards, mudflaps, toolbox etc.

The thought of doing it by hand with something like NevrDull makes me sleepy

Saw a commercial for one of those Flitz Polishing Balls that go on a drill and was curious if they're any good... or... any recommendations?

I use the Mothers powerball and their polish on my wheels and diamond plate. Cuts down on time considerably. But I still don't think that it replaces good old fashioned elbow grease, if you have the time.

For diamond plate the easiest thing to use if you don't have the ball, is a old piece of carpet and some paste polish like mothers. And when I say "easiest" i mean you still have to rub until your arm falls off, but it's easier than neverdull.

NRiver... I saw on a TV show where a guy was restoring his vintage Airstream Trailer, and that's the exact process he used, that sucker was blinding!

That's actually what got me thinking about doing this (That and I priced new Stainless Running Boards! :{

Anyway, anyone know if there are buffer attachments for orbital sanders? don't have a buffer.

GO down to the local parts store and pick up a couple of the dispoable buffing bonnets that mount on a drill and some Mothers Metal Polish. It will look like crome when you are finished and you can chunk the pads when you are done. Thats what I use, its fast and not too much manual labor involved.

Let me first state that I have no interest whatsoever with this company. I absolutely hate aluminum polishing. But it's one of those necessary evils one must do to properly maintain their investment. But that doesn't mean I have to like it. :-laf . That being said, this post is simply to help the many who contribute to this outstanding forum. So, I come out of 'lurking-mode' with this little nugget-of-knowledge, in hopes of helping those who have helped me.

I have a considerable amount of aluminum that I maintain both on my trailer as well as my race-car. This is hands down the best and easiest polish I have ever used.

I absolutely agree on the Magic Mix. The main thing is the time saving. I've tried Mother's, Maguiers, Hollywoods, and others. They all give fine results, but only after much more work.



I have a Mother's Power Ball. On my Weld wheels it's a time saver on the larger wheel surfaces, but I still have to do the tighter areas by hand. But, with the Magic Mix this is still a much quicker method.

24V-DSL, Not only it is easier (by far), but it is a much less 'dirty' process too. You don't have the, gets-on-everything and almost impossible-to-remove-Black tarnished paste everywhere. The more you 'work this polish-in' the better the overall finish. The key is to let it dry completely, after you rub it in. Then it comes off like a dried paste wax. I should mention that disposable gloves, should be worn. Especially when using the cleaner, as it has some pretty mean chemicals in it.

I guess that the secret to keeping the aluminum looking good, it to stay on top of it from the onset-when it's still new. I don't heed my own advice always, but this product makes aluminum up-keep, a lot more tolerable. thanks

i also use the mothers powerball(19. 95 and available at most any napa, advanced auto, autozone)..... ive had good luck with mothers chrome polish, and bluemagic
