Why would you want to take off a perfectly good 12Valve head, and put a 24 on?Sounds lie a big waste of time and money,as afar as cheap-who cares if its not going to improve your truck. Simply porting your 12 valve head will more than equal any 24 valve head, they aren't the greatest airflow wise either.

I have been told by several people that the only reason for Cummins going to the 24 valve was to meet emissions. I agree sounds like a waste of time and money.

Well as in cheap i meant free. I thought that i read that a 24v head on a 12v motor was supposed to make more hp and torque. Are there any advantage to using a 24v head. just wondering.

It was for emission reasons but mostly so it would breath better at a higher rpm and so they could add the fuel later without smoke. It flows as good as a ported 12valve head but if you port a 24 then what, its even better. Also its not exactly a bolt up deal, the pistons are different, the 12 have the combustion chamber offset and the 24 is in the center, I don't know if that is acctually a huge deal. Then you have to get costom fuel lines made. I've heard this can cost as much as 1000 but I cant understand why, you cant get lengths made up at most any diesel injection shop and bend them yourself. But what do I know they mey be special. The next issue is injectors, you have to use 24valvers, from 275 to stage 4 from bullydog, then exhaust manifolds are a little different too, the 12 are rounded square and 24's are round ports.
Hope this helps. If you don't want that head I do. #ad

Just curious: do the 12V pushrods line up with the 24V rockers? Does one rocker push down on two valves?

You are a perfect example of Bombaholizm at it's worst. Just goes to prove that there is no such thing as "enough power". #ad
