Detectable chips: yes or no?

Are Edge chips (and banks, etc. ) detectable or not?



I get conflicting answers. I am looking for those who have experience in chipping and then having maintinence or repairs (warrany or not done).



Not a mechanic so pleae keep it simple.

I think the folks that get nabbed for that had existing fault codes set in the ECM.



I you were to use a box and then remove one for warranty work it would be wise to also disconnect both negative battery cables for a couple minutes to clear the memory even if you have no check engine lamp on at the time.

Unfortunately, that didn't work on my 04, tried it several times, even over night, then tried to start the truck with the cables still unhooked to discharge any capacitors. Still didn't work.



However, the dealer didn't know of any performance accessories that were on the truck.

You need to get the codes cleared with an OBD2 scanner,before bringing it in. If your a bomber your much more likely to get caught than ever b4, DC is onto bombing these trucks big time. With how much power the 3rd gens have I would leave it stock if you must have your warranty. ,Back when these things had 160HP ,bombing was a must,but now with 305-325hp they run real good right from DC. Any truck with guages is a dead giveaway,IMO. If you have the air filter/exhaust/guages. They know your hiding the fuelling box in your garage til the truck is done...

If I am reading things properly:

1. Can be chipped but need to have codes cleared with a device.

2. "Bombing" is heavy duty chipping? (I just want something for better around town mileage and a touch for mountain towing large 5th wheel)

3. Since I have 10 years / 100k mile bumper to bumper. . why risk anything?

4. Guages are NOT NEEDED / RECOMMENDED as their presence indicates "bombing" ... even if not bombed?

If you have the air filter/exhaust/guages. They know your hiding the fuelling box in your garage til the truck is done...

um, i have all of the above 3 pieces, yet no fueling box. when the warrenty is up, then the fueling box and/or injectors go in... just a few years left on the warrenty

gauges are a must even in a stock vehicle if you tow. Just my opinion.

What gauages? Just hte 3 listed above? Brand, dealer, etc.



Should I just have dealer install them?



Can i do it myself with out warranty endangerment?



Mopar gauges good as ther aftermarket?



Towing to / from Florida twice a year and lots of traveling in the mountains of Colorado 13k lbs. 5th wheel. Hence the reason for discussion.

Keeping warranty is a must so no chip.



What about the syn oil issue? After 20k miles I was told before.

Seems most folks like after market gauges you get more choises. The three you should think about getting are piro,boost,and if you have an auto a trany temp. I dotn think doing them your self will effect warranty but you should check with who ever does your warranty work.

Guages dont affect your warranty,but they are a telltale sign of a modded truck. If your only doing guages your fine,but dont be suprised if you get hassled for them if your dealer wants to make an issue of it.

took the edge box off the wifes '03 and had the transmission tsb done ...



didn't disconnect the battery ...



they did the tsb and never said a thing

Has anyone actually had a warranty denial from a dealer for adding a box and removing it for service? I don't mean rumors of so and so, I mean actual personal experience.

Dealers probably do look at gauges as a "tell-tale" sign of bombing but they should, instead, look upon them as a sign that the owner cares enough to monitor critical parameters and not overheat his/her truck.
