Do the Bosch rebuilders mark their rebuilt VP-44's in any way to visually/externally tell the difference between an original and a rebuilt?

Yes. the bosche factory rebuilds that I have used have the surface where the part# and ser # from the factory are machined off and re-marked with new #s. The in house rebuilts dont get that fancy and may have a glued on plate or just a sticker.

HMMmm - on the Bosch rebuilds, is there something unique about those "new #'s", or what is there that clearly identifies them as remarked - shucks, *I* wouldn't know a "new" number from an older original one unless there was something clearly different or unique about the new markings.

The RMTDR just had a XMAS lunch yesterday. One of the guys and members here named Sticks works for Central Motive Power. They are also the local Bosch certified repair/rebuild facility for the area. We were talking about vp's and he mentioned the same that they do not put a sticker on they change the number. Might be worth a pm to Sticks maybe he can answer.

THanks Barry - I Emailed Sticks direct with my question - I'll post the response here if he can provide anything. As more and more rebuilts hit the replacement scene, being able to identify one might be worth serious $$$ to a potential buyer...

Ok,the reman pumps we get from Bosch have about 5-6 lines of numbers, including ser# and Part#,they also have " reman in cz". A while back it could have gone either way a new pump under reman # from Germany or a reman unit. Now we just get the reman units. :(

AH!

So somewhere on the ID pad, a remanufactured SHOULD have markings identifying it as remanufactured - NOT simply updated #'s a layman probably would not recognize as unique - Thanks.

We'll see what info comes back from Sticks as well...

Alot of times they are painted and have "remanufactured" with some numbers on the top plate also. at least on the ones i've seen.

We not only put a new tag on with part# (Cummins and Bosch) and our serial # but we also stamp numbers in the pump housing on the raised boss by the mounting flange. Those numbers are for indentifying our pump and determining the in warranty date. It also indentifies to us the work order# so that we can prove what was wrong with the pump before, what we did to rebuild the pump and what new parts were installed. This helps us with new Bosch parts that carry a Bosch warranty so that we can get them to pay us if there is defective parts. It also helps if there is a parts recall or a service bulletin that we may need to contact our customers for. Thanks, Brady 1-800-955-0476
