Detroit/Eaton Truetrac VS Gleason Torsen

Hello everyone I was wondering if anyone has ever used a Detroit/Eaton Truetrac or Gleason Torsen limited slip differential on their daily driver / off road vehicles and how effective one or both of them are. Is one better than the other and if so what are the pros/cons of each. Thanks in advance andy thoughts, opinions, or answers.

I have no experience with the Gleason but I have used the Truetrac in the past in a front axle and I was very happy with it. No special additives or additional maintenance beyond normal fluid changes. It was smooth and worked very well.

I also added a Truetrac in the front of my Chevy with a 400hp small block running 40" tires-very effective combination for pismo

Like others, I've not personally used the Torsen unit but have a fair amount of first hand experience with the Detroit (now by Eaton) TrueTrac. Had one in the front of a CJ7 and have installed them in either position in several other vehicles.
They're pretty stout and seamless in operation and act like a good-mannered locker more than a simple LSD. I'd put one in nearly any vehicle. I very much like that it's a full-case LSD with a strong design.
The best Torsen unit appears reserved for OEMs only, but I could mistaken in my read through of their site.

Hello everyone I know this will show my lack of knowledge and will sound completely crazy or insane but if someone was wanting to build a vehicle for offroad use as well as their daily driver that has a reversed transfercase so instead of being rear wheel drive it is now front wheel drive with provisions to power the rear axle (previously the front axle) would a spool in the front axle completely tear apart the axle or the entire drive line ? Or would just adding Eaton true track systems to both axles be better ? Thanks for any thoughts, opinions, or answers.

A spool in the front will chew up something...tires, steering pump and links, or whatever is the fuse in your driveline (unless you have manual locking hubs and lock only one side) because at every turn one side of the front diff (aka tire) will be trying to travel a further distance than the other so something has to give. I've a Detroit locker in front and the only time I engage front drive on the highway is snow, and even then with just the right side hub locked (so when I slide off into a snowbank I need only lock the driver's side).

Its an old thread... but...

A spool in a Front Axle is completely nonsens, it will affect the steering so badly the vehicle will be undrivable, on- and off the road. A Truetrac is fine in the front axle and is used by many OEMs in FWD and AWD Vehicles. Check wiki for more info.
