Has anyone out there ran a detroit locker in the rear of their 2500 4x4? I am looking for first hand experience in driving situations ranging from around town unloaded, to highway towing, to offroading. What kind of additional tire wear could I expect? How will it act in long sweeping corners with a trailer on? Just the facts please.

Thanks for the help.

I've got Detroits in both ends of my Jeep. Accelerating or decelerating in a sweeper will usually give you a little rear end wiggle since you're powering one wheel more or less. They have their quirks, need to keep tire pressure equal, but work great off road.

Better question, why do feel the need for one? I ran a detroit in a jeep also, the slack is something to work with. I dont know if I would like it in a truck that hauls a lot.

My buddy has one and hates it.

It is quirky in the common ways they are, but with his trailer on back, he gets tons of baging and racheting. So, I helped him adjust air pressure to make the tires exactly the same size. They pressure variance was over 15psi and resulted in one tire getting hot and the traed seperating somewhat from the carcass.

AS a general rule, I do not like lockers in vehicles that spend a majority of thier time on the pavement. You would be far better served with a limited slip. If you need that maximum traction off road, I would seriously look at an ARB and use it when you need it.

also auto or manual makes a difference (auto is more forgiving) :)

Experience with Detroits yes, but not with use in tow rigs :)

I'd go for a selectable one if I had the need for one in the tow rig. Preferably one that is a LSD in case it's not locked in :)
