I am thinking about front and rear detroit lockers, and changing gear sets from 3. 54 to 4. 10's. i know there is a carrier to be replaced to do that, but i don't know what that is, also I am wondering what changes that will make with the differentials, and the 4x4 system. I am looking to get something really made to pull a sled, as well as to pull through any sticky situation i may wind up in, especially since i work at snowshoe and sometimes have to travel in adverse weather

The carrier is what you are replacing with the Locker. However, in the front, you will hate the steering, or lack thereof. It has to unlock fo any turning, and action will be rough. Also, the carrier change is between 4. 10 and 4. 56 with Dana so the gear change does not mean a carrier change in your situation.

I agree with Joe--don't do a detroit in the front---I have the ARB--locked or unlocked with the flick of a switch--can't beat it--you could look into doing an Eaton I believe--the front's are trickier than the rear--only a couple of options---do do your research---chris

I had Detroits in both ends of my K5 (one ton drivetrain D60 front FF14B rear) and I loved them. HOWEVER, we don't have snow here ( or at least not much ) and having snow/ice and a front end that will want to snowplow under any kind of power is not a good thing. In the rear I never had an issue with the snow/ice up on Mt Hood as all I used was 2wd in most cases, or at worst unlocked one hub and used the front as a 3 wheel drive. Can't do that with our Dodge's unfortunately... ... ... ..... maybe a selectable locker up front or a strong posi like a PowerLok.

i was thinking the dana 80 locker from detroit was for 4. 10 and up only. I will definately do some more looking into the front locker, maybe a good air locker is in order, along with some air bags and a few other goodies like horns. I am thinkin a viair 550c compressor and a 5 - 12 gallon tank should supply all the air i need for all my toys i plan to put on like air ride, the horns the locker and other nice things, all in due time to decide i suppose.

I started with a DANA 70 rear in my truck with 3. 54 gears and changed them to 4. 10's and added a detroit in the rear and ARB in the front---worked really good--i've since put a DANA 80 in the rear and just restacked the clutches in the OEM limited slip and seems to work pretty good so far---chris

how long of a job is it to redo the clutches in the 80? and i have heard theres a trick to get more grab out of them than stock?

mines been slipping for a while now(hardly any posi at all anymore) i was thinking about lockers, but if i can redo the one ive got for a lot less $$ and get allmost the same effect... ...
